Hi All,

So I know what the oil rating means (80w90 etc), i also have read up about the GL-5 rating, but i can find no information on the differences in specifications and characteristics between synthetic and mineral GL-5 gear oil

I do remember a very old converstion with a friend of mine, about the need for a specific grade of oil to protect the brass elements of my 1150gs gearbox....but i cannot for the life of me remember the details,

and to be honest, i would be appreciative if someone could indicate whether the watercooled GS requires a synthetic final drive oil for any reason?

I had a previous bike (FJR1300) where the manufacturer specified a specific yamaha final drive product, and I do not like being forced to buy blind simply because its proftable for the manufacturer who has made a deal with an oil producer

thanks

GL-5 is an anti foaming agent. Non specific for Mineral or Synthetic.
