In case you are planning to head towards Austria in 2024, the tunnels along the lake at Zell am Zee are closed for the foreseeable future.
They planned a couple of weeks routine maintenance in the run up to Christmas and found a huge void in the rock surrounding one of the tubes that effectively makes the tunnel unsafe for traffic.
Zell is one of the possible routes to the Grossglockner and all traffic is being diverted through the centre of town……. Which is the problem the tunnel was built to alleviate in the 80s …
Better to divert via Thumersbach and put up with the 30KPH limit through the village (DAMHIK).
