Hi,
Need some info from you guys. Do I need a Carnet for Iran and Turkey? I'm british, but my bike is Omani registered.

thanks

visa for iran not for turkey bike could travel of carnet de passage or you can fill forms in at border in Iran to say bike not being sold in Iran but this takes time as they enter it into passport and you have to pay deposit.

Hi wen you ar goueng to Turkey?
Cos I am goueng to Roania on August the 9ts end meybey we have companey all the wey to Istanbul. or to Tripoli

bit complex just been told you now need a card to buy fuel in Iran as a tourist but not been told where to get it, as for the papers for the vehicle erm I would check with the country of origin.. or where the vehicle is insured. However whatever we say I bet you a million pound it'll be nothing like it when you get to the border.....

Would have thought that you can get a green card from insurance and play it by ear, ciggies, porn, sweets and clean T-shirts plus secret bacon sandwiches are always good as currency.

Not that any Islamic country will ever admit to it...

whether you need a carnet or not, it is always a good idea to have one! just give them as much paper work as possible and it really reduces the amount of crap you get! thats my two pence!

Iran is doable w/o the CdP. I got iranian company to backup (they guaranteed) my case that I'll not sell my GS in Iran. But in my case I had to return with the bike from the same border post I entered the country.

Actually bikes more than 250cc are still banned in the contry, but this law seemed not to apply to foreigners (I was on my R1100GS).

With CdP it's easier crossing of the border, but buying CdP from UK costs you a fortune of deposit money depending how expensive your bike is. I'd recommend issuing CdP via German ADAC, 3000EURos deposit (this money you get back later when you return with the bike) per vehicles with market price up to 15,000EURos. 220EUR issuing fee only that you don't get back.

Compared to UK, Canada etc Carnets, it's a bargain. Check if they issue CdP for UK citizens tho.

PS. You live in Oman then?

Good roads, Margus

CDP is not such a big hassle. If you are planning to come back on your bike, which I assume you do, then value your bike as little as possible but not riddiculously low.RAC know this is a game. From the RAC website you will find out what deposit certain countries require and you can work out the price of the Carnet. You also have 3 options to get it. Bank Guarantee, Insurance (what I went for) and deposit. 10 pages CDP did cost me 1247 Pounds where 750 is comming back to me after I have returned CdP to RAC.
cheers
