new adventurer arriving next week with tkc's fitted. want to change to tourances or similar? if i fit them myself do i need to get wheels re-balanced? as i want to swop them over two/three times a year depending on trips?

Regardless of who fits the the tyres,you should balance the wheels afterwards on a road going bike....though you may get away without doing so on a pure offroader.

so presumably i could fit the tkc's for going off road myself with no real need to worry about balancing? then on return ride to dealer to get road tyres back on and balanced?
