Friend of mine is involved in the cubs, so to speak.
They go out for a number of night hikes over the winter and have been lost a couple of times, causing some of the lads to become distressed (0200 in the fens, mid November last time).
He has now decided to buy a hand held GPS but doesn’t know what to buy, so I’m asking on his behalf.

He requires a low cost, up to £150, hand held unit which can be loaded with starting and finishing grid references as well as a few way points in between.

Any ideas appreciated.

If he has a PDA already it is probably worthwhile buying one of the GPS sleeves, especially if he is in cities...

Garmin E-Trex. Various models available at various prices with various features. My E-Trex Vista for example has an altimeter so they would know if they were under water on the fens. ;)Pocket/hand size and fully waterproof.

Thanks for the input.

He's not a techno head so doesn't have a PDA. Are the Garmin's simple to use? Where the best place to purchase from.

Sounds like the Garmin would be apt. He's a plumber nicknamed Captain Flood.

Wher to buy.

Look at the GPS info section on the site. You'll see all the various places.
i.e Offroadstore, GPS warehouse, Maplins, etc., etc.....

Just hunt around the internet for the best price.

Thanks Howard.

Have checked a few prices and some are better than the auction offers on ebay.
