When I removed the rear wheel to fix a puncture at 10,000 miles I found my cush drive was disintigrating into a sticky mess. BMW dealer Hughendons told me that there had been a recall on some bikes for this problem, but mine was not one of them. However, in fairness to Hughendons and BMW they gave me a replacement set FOC as "goodwill".
So, check your cush drive for excess play and if yours turns into sticky mush, you know what to do.
