cheap quest, any good?

Bear in mind that this is the American version with only 115MB of usable map space as opposed to the European model that has 243MB. Europe has a high relative road/population density which essentially means much more memory per sq/mile is required to store mapping data so the extra memory is required unless your travel plans are fairly modest.

Reading the description it does appear to have the option of shipping with City Nav Europe, however, it looks like that text has just been lifted from the Garmin site as the "what's in the box" bit only mentions City Nav Nth America.

If you're really on a tight budget you could run Metroguide Europe which you would have to source but note that you would only be able to fit mapping for about half of the UK onto the unit. Given the smaller map tiles in Metroguide (similar to the earlier City Select products) you could do touring around Europe but your 'off track' mapping would very limited.

Unless you know what you're letting yourself in for I would avoid it, you'll need to pay duty and shipping over and above the listed price anyway which would bring it close to an eBay purchase anyway.

Example 1, example 2, example 3.

The last example above sold for £41! Now you do have to make sure that the unit comes with the mapping unlock code (yellow slip of paper, essential for mapping updates) and best to check that the seller is willing to verify to Garmin that they sold the unit to you (that's if it's registered in the 1st place, mine hadn't been). Also verify with the seller which mapping version comes with the unit, City Nav v9 is current with v10 due early next year although v8 will be fine unless you're in Ireland... (which you are). Beware units with only the car charger, it's quite possible that they've been stolen. If an eBay seller has gleaned information about the unit from the eBay product database then it it will be listed, under 'Additional Information about Road Vehicle' as only having 115MB of RAM, that's because the database is wrong for the European version. If you can get the user to power the unit on whilst holding down the 'OK' key a diagnostic screen is shown, at the bottom of this should be 'Atlantic Autoroute' followed be a version number (prob. 1.0) under 'Basemap', this is the European version. If this is anything else other than 'Atlantic Autoroute' then it's likely to be a 115MB model. To exit just power the unit off.

Found this and wondered if anygood for us tossers. Its a quest fully refurbished and only$155 with the exchange rate and all is this any good here for us. Dont know ought about GPS so can we upload our maps onto this or would it work out too expensive?
