Not really sure
people of the GS world, I am due to pick up a year old GS tomorrow, (lucky me) from Wollaston BMW in Northampton. Who can tell me their experience of the dealer? I am naturally very suspicious of dealer, especially the workshops, a fear that is based on practical experience. For example, I put my K100rs in the the above dealer earlier this year for the head bearings to be replaced. I did this, as it requires specialist tools which I dont have. I pisked up the bike the next day, rode it ten miles, during which it was clear that the bearings were adjusted way too tight. I immediately let them know, and they had the bike back the next day. Picked it up the day after, and guess what? Still way too tight! GAve up and sorted the adjustment myself.
It cost me £170 quid for the privilege.
Bearing in mind I need to have the new bike dealer serviced to maintain the warranty, am I in the s&*t?

Happy Crimbo to ya'all

If they couldn't be trusted to do the head bearings on your K100RS, why on earth have you been back to give them more business ?

I wondered that meself, however, the bike I bought was a good price, with the kit I wanted, and after the warranty has run out, I will be doing my own maintenance on it anyway. Until then, if they screw it up, I can shout louder than they!!!!

A good friend of mine bought his GS from them and has nothing but praise for them.

However when I rang them to get a quote for a new GS the guy there took all my details and promised to call me back....never did?

In fact I rang them three times and each time left my details and requested that someone to call me back.

Strange really but you would have thought that a customer armed with the cash and no p/x would have been an ideal quick and easy sale:confused:

Wollastan

Wish I had bought my new GS off Wollastan instead of Hughendon M40 earlier this year. I thought I would stick to a dealer who (I thought) I knew about and also had a good reputaion obtained after years of good service (I knew people who were buying bikes off Hughendon over 20-years ago).

I was quoted for a new GS with all the trimmings off both dealers and then got Hughendon to match Wollastans price (which was considerably better).

After the order has been in for a couple of months (I was waiting for 1st Sept delivery as I still had a pair of Jota's to sell) I discovered Hughendon were giving up new BMW's so I was lumbered with a supplying dealer who couldn't carry out servicing for me (they did offer a way around this but I was having none of it).
A couple of days before I was due to pick the bike up it appeared the panniers would not be ready for me as the order had only just been placed with BMW (despite them being ordered at the same time as the bike). As it tured out they did turn up in time (the latest ones with a lid retaining strap already fitted) but I was short two lock barrels so these had to be posted across the following week.
When I got home I realised the original rear footpegs were missing (they are replaced for the Adventure ones) so a couple of weeks later I popped across to pick them up. They were handed to me in a box marked up 'spare rear footpegs'. in other words they were going to sell them to the next person who had a spill and snapped one!

After a week or so's happy riding the 600-mile service was becoming due so I booked it in at Wollastans where they agreed to carry out the free service (they made an arrangement with Hughendon to cover costs). After this they gave me the same discount on parts & accessories (including Wunderliech) as if they had been my original supplying dealer, top marks!

I know it is difficult to get a feel for the quality of the workmanship after just one basic service but everything certainly looked & felt ok so I have no worries about taking it back to Wollastans for the first proper service next year.

:)
