Instead of the narrow, winding Lakeland roads, if you visit Ulverston in South Cumbria (my home town) check out the A5087 Coast Road. Fast but never totally straight, with lots of fast switchbacks, and lots of advance views of the road, as it follows the Morecambe Bay coast.
As you enter Ulverston from the A590, across small roundabout with Booths Supermarket on your left: 700 yds later, take the (second) tight left, signed for A5087 / Croftlands / Barrow. Follow it for 2 miles. Past the Swimming Pool / Sports Centre on your left.
With the Cemetary on your right, a nice LH corner leads you out of the speed limit and on to the Coast Road. GO!!!!!!!!!!
After about 10 miles, at the Rampside roundabout, turn around and do it all in reverse back to Ulverston.
