Hi,
New to this wonderful forum, I am seeking help to find a GPS unit to meet my needs.
I charter sailboats at different locations of the globe for my summer vacations . hence spend winters at home saving for the next season .
Locations could be as far as Thailand one year and Croatia next year etc etc
As I am not a boat owner (waiting for retirement to buy a nice cruising boat) to justify the price and investment, I need a dual purpose unit which I can use for street navigation when I am at home (UK) and also take with me and use on the charter boats at different parts of the world.
Hence the unit I am looking should,
- be Portable
- have, UK Highways/Cities (turn by turn voice would be a plus)
- come with some sort of windshield mount
- be Color (preferable) and readable screen
- be able to load marine charts depending on my destination
- way points
- anchor alarm
- Compass (not a deal breaker but nice to have)
- Marine charts reasonably priced and of good quality
- able to load maps/charts w/out PC, if not should be Macintosh compatible
- reasonable battery life 12 hrs +
- rechargeable
- easy to use
I have read many GPS reviews here, but still didn't become to the decision which one should I go for.
Any suggestions / recommendations pls
