Did you see this in the review:

However, U.S. recipients – under a different emission code – will benefit from the new bike being imported with an electrical “plug” that boosts horsepower significantly, adding 11 ponies to the European model, bringing output up to a solid 51 hp. In stock Euro mode the bike is no slouch, pumping out decent low-end, mid-range and top-end. However, the additional (U.S.) power is significant and gets spread out fairly evenly over the entire powerband, really showing itself on the top end when screaming the 450cc single in the upper rpm range. The importing transformation (which is actually about a two-minute procedure that involves removing a side panel and plugging the connector loop into place) helps to smooth out the engine at idle and low rpm.

Why wouldn't we get the same power choice :-(

The reviewer is wrong - we do :thumb2

Not sure how good a dirt bike it will be but it's gonna make one hell of a good Supermoto :)

My girlfriend, even tho she doesn't know how to ride yet, has fallen in love with it!

So I may have to buy one for her :augie

What do you mean about "not sure how good a dirt bike it will be".:nenau It is trashing KTM. BMW's team came 2,3,4. two weeks ago, Yamaha came first at the 2008 German Cross Country championship.

I'm having a real problem lusting after this bike - somebody please tell me how it isn't that practical and that I would have to trailer it everywhere and that it is far too dedicated to be enjoyed by an amateur....

PLEASE!

Sorry, didn't mean I think it'd be a poor dirt bike just that I don't know how good a dirt bike it'd be 'cos I've not ridden one (and truth be told I'm so pants off road that even riding one would not enable me to make a judgement :D)

Going by the in depth test in TBM they commented on it's stiff suspension and stable geometry (tendency to understeer) [1] - these traits, along with the long swing arm and healthy power output are what makes me think it'd make an ideal Supermoto, it'd also look sexy as hell :thumb2

Yes, WMB are doing quite well in the races that it's so far been entered into, good bike aside though I'm sure that the results have nothing to do with having the resources behind them of Europes biggest bike manufacturer nor hiring some of the top riders out there ;)

Andres

[1] TBM also mentioned that the works team run different steering geometry to quicken the steering.

It isn't that practical and you would have to trailer it everywhere and it is far too dedicated to be enjoyed by an amateur....

Did that help :nenau :D

To be honest, I felt it was lacking a little sincerity... so no, not really! :D

Mav ..........the things way too good for you, you'd waste all your money on a trailer and matching kit......... you'd then ride it like a pussy and if you didnt it would eat you alive..... everybody watching would say you were a fecking ATGNI ponce and you'd be a laughing stock. You'd sell it 12 mths later having lost £2+ on it.

Keep your money and your wallet in your pocket you pillock !!!

Tell it like it is:p

Reading the TBM review, they suggested the 450X is definitely built as a full on competiton bike with no frills and a complete lack of civility

They said it was a fantastic bike, but not many riders will be able to use 50% of its true potential

Isn't that the case for most bike/rider combos?
