Ahh yes the XR1200, HDs attempt to crack the European market. :augie

Always wondered what it would be like riding an HD, found out a few weeks back when we rented a Dyna Glide low rider in Florida. Let's just say I won't be beating a path to the local dealership, not my cup of tea.

chopped my gsa with 4500 miles on for one. totaly different animal. an aquired taste yes, fun yes, when i'm scraping the pegs the gs is not missed. and it sounds a lot better with suppertrapps. when its time for shopping the gs is missed though. :D each to there own

Did you get a black one to go with your Vrod?

My wife bought her 883 Sportster Low in july last year. She's now done over 3000 miles on it and thinks that its great.

When on honeymoon in Florida we rented a Fat Boy, similar to the one you rented (Screen and leather saddlebags). Good fun and really enjoyable... in Florida and on US roads that is...

Having said that I'm coming around to H-D's way of thinking. Particulalrly the Nightster and now the XR1200. I'm just not quite sure that I get whatever it is that H-D offers to people.

Just what is it that people love about these? I'm now at the point where I could easily be persuaded to give one a try... Is that a bad thing?

Why should it be a bad thing, the bikes are an aquired taste, just as BMWs and Moto Guzzis are to a lot of people. Sometimes I think potential harley riders are put off more by the 'weekend warrior' image with all the associated leather chaps, tassles and nipple clamps, I'm not saying this applies to you though. Get the bike enjoy it for what it is, forget about any style thing, shit I wouldn't be seen dead in a 'Twat suit' while riding my GS and if I had a sports bike the last thing I'd wear would be one of those 'power ranger' suits with a Quasi hump between my shoulders.

I've had a couple of HDs, I had an FXDX Superglide sport for several years, I ran it alongside my GS for quite a few, it was certainly faster and had a great deal more torque than the GS, the whole riding experience was different, sure it didn't handle as well as the GS or any sports bike, but then they're not intended to. They are as reliable as any BMW and are certainly easier to maintain. In many ways I regret selling the FXDX but in order to buy another bike it was necessary. I later bought a 1200 Sportster but as much as I enjoyed it I felt that having had the tweeked FXDX I had been spoilt, so the Sporty was swapped for a 1050 Tiger (they're great!)
I found Harley ownership very enjoyable and someday will buy another, possibly a Road King. Go for it.

this is the way to do it , all black and no chrome . and no logo on the tank .

Must admit to being intrigued and having a go on one.
I've test rode a few HARLEYS, an older 1200, which i thought was gutless. The current 1200 which felt nice regarding power, but was shit handling, I'e. no ground clearance.

This new one looks to have the pipes reasonably clear off the deck, just hope the finish is reasonable. The demo bikes at Dock Gate were appalling, the bolts were rusty.

Nice

as churchill would say, "OH YES" with added black and supertrapps
Yep my insurance company goes go yum when i renew I had a supercharged night train chopper which ate most sport bikes to a ton valued at 30K i sold it last year and now run my Vrscdx Night rod special and my 12gsa .i still own two moto guzzis two BSA s a panther and an AJS all bikes a great and do different things i love them all some are crap some tick the boxes harleys are well made and just do what they do some like them and some dont i like the way they tune they have many options. I do like the new XR1200 it looks pretty clean All i say is just keep riding and try them all.
