Reponses to the proposed new legislation need to reach DEFRA by the 19th March

If you give a toss about your right to use your motorcycle, on the remaining 5000 miles of rights of way open to vehicular use, it's time to take action.

I would like to think that the majority of forum members would be interested in protecting these rights.

You may on the other hand be happy for the ramblers to add these remaining rights of way to the 120,000 plus miles of footpath and bridleway to which they already have exclusive use.

Details of how to appose the proposed legislation – including sample letters etc. can be found in the following publications and websites

I've just completed the BMF response to the consultation document (with a few variations of my own) - that'll be in the post box on the way home tonight.

I've also written a polite letter (not using the template) to the Minister. I found it quite difficult to draft as I felt that I needed to recognise that there are some total w:GS:GSk:GS:GSs out there, but there are also loads of folk who, like me, want to ride totally road-legal bikes within a legal framework and be able to sustain the environment in which I do that for all countryside users.

Riding Rights

Not written to DEFRA, but didn't know about the consultation process.

Can you post some info about how to go about it?

Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who responded to my posting on the "save our byways" issue. Over 2000 votes at the time of writing.

However, while a petition on this matter carries some weight, what really makes the powers that be sit up and take note, is when sack fulls of letters from the constituents are dumped on the desks of MP's and they have to reply to each and every one of them. Please take the time to take a look at Greg's link above and copy the relevant letter to your own MP at the very least. For the cost of a second class stamp, it's got to be worth it.

I for one, have sent a personal letter to each one of the 63 signatories of EDM380 and the Prime Minister and I want a reply. What they don't realise is this will not only effect you riding a motorcycle down some leafy lane, but hundreds of small businesses up and down the country who supply specialist motorcycles, spares and accessories. Eventually they will go out of business, putting many people out of work. Is this what Tony B'liar, the Labour Party and all 63 signatories of EDM380 want?
