Phoenix - Apache Trail Route 88

Hi all.
I have 3-4 days in June around Phoenix and I was thinking about taking the old Apache trail and heading down to Tombstone in New mexico.
Does anyone know if the trail is Ok for hired Harleys, esp the stretch between Tortilla Flats and Roosevelt on 88 - it just seems to fade out on the maps.
Any other thoughts also much appreciated.

I checked with a hire company out there last year and they said it was a no no! hire a GS!
