Bari to Dubrovnik in May

Hi all
Going to go down through Italy and back up Croatia in May. We intend to use the Ferry at Bari to get to Dubrovnick around the 9th.
I have never used this Ferry and need a bit of advice.

1. Should we book or can you ride up and pay?

2. If we arrive early in Bari is there anywhere to hole up and have a pint?

3. Anything we should know about the Ferry / People etc?

We are doing the same thing, leave UK on 23rd May and cross on Tuesday 2nd June, all I can say is that we have pre booked ours as soon as the dates came available, all new to us as well, will be riding coast road up to Slovenia and back into Italy.

There is the issue of insurance through the 12 mile strip of bosnia but we are thinking of using the strip of land along coast and short ferry hop back to mainland that way we stay in Croatia throughout.

Any problems can you leave notes pinned to lampposts for us!!!!
