Maybe it's me - but when listening in the car to anything (audio instructions or music) - I can hardly make out a word they are saying due to distortion from speaker

I can reduce volume to 30% - but still awful...
Anyone else with this - or maybe just a dodgy one - perhaps I need to take it back to RGM and listen to another one??

Used mine in the car today for the first time.

I had it on 100% (navigation) and it was a tad fuzzy, so I turned it down to 90% which made it nice and clear.

Sounds like you may have a faulty unit.

I suggest you try a different voice to see if that helps, otherwise do as you suggest and take it back to shop and try it against another unit.

Sounds like a dodgy unit, although the sound isn't going to be fantastic it should still be pretty clear, I do use mine plugged into the mp3 input of my car stereo though, allows me to whack the volume right up for mp3's, Nav and phone calls :D

Big thank you to Garmin :clap
Sent a head unit with faulty speaker off on the 6/7/09

Minor gripe - didn't have my splash screen :)
