Looking for a few destinations for next year, and i believe that Brest, Brittany has some WW2 U-boat pens that are worth a looking at.
Have you been there or have you visited any other similar sites?

Any information will be gratefullty received....:thumb2

Timpo.

Lorient would be far better, much of the base remains intact although now used as a kind of industrial estate. There's a museum too. Also Doenitz's chateau still stands, now in the grounds of the yacht club opposite the base.

Brest still has the pens, as does La Rochelle but I must say got a better feel for the whole thing at Lorient. PM me if you need more details

Hi Timpo, as far as I know there is a museum etc at the port of Saint Nazaire, which is a bit further down the coast from Brest and Nantes.
There was an article about a famous trick played by the Navy on the Germans in TBM last year.
Also in the area are Pornic and Pornichet, two beautifull little seaside towns, worth a visit.
When I was living in France I met an English ex para called Jack who runs tours of the battlefields, not sure if he covers the Brest area but worth getting in touch with him, he lives near Pegasus Bridge and his tours are pretty cheap, around 30 € per person per day. Look him up on www.freewebs.com/gixajak
He rides a Suzuki Gsxr but I think that he may have just bought a GS or Triumph Speed Triple.
Hope this helps, have a great time.

I've been to Saint Nazaire it's the place where sent the bomb boat thing, commando raid to destroy the U-boat pen. Nice resturants and all that and not a bad walk about the docks area.

+1 for St Nazaire. They're more interesting/accessible that the one at l'Orient (Museum etc.) If you understand French you can go on a guided tour of the dockyards which I did when they were building the Queen Elizabeth. It's worth it just to see the dry docks.

Pornichet etc. are great as are La Baule (if you like your resorts a bit posher) and Le Croisic.
