From Cork to Dublin; From Holyhead to Dover

Hi guys,

I am planning a short trip to Ireland in mid September (Zagreb, Croatia, to Roscoff ferry to Cork). I plan to stay 4 days in Ireland and travel from Cork to Dublin, ferry to Holyhead and from Holyhead to Dover. Could anyone please suggest the most interesting routes, scenic or historical that would include rural areas and, if possible, pubs to stay overnight. UK portion of a trip I plan to cover in two - three days. Thanks!:aidan

The journey from Cork to Dublin can be done in no time at all direct so if I was you I'd head North West from Cork taking in the Cliffs of Moher http://www.cliffs-moher.com/ you could then continue on to Donegal some great riding roads up there. Then have a look at the Gaints causeway http://www.northantrim.com/giantscauseway.htm and then drop down through Cavan on route to Dublin, once there if you have time the Wicklow Mountains are right beside you so Sally gap and Glendalough http://www.glendalough.connect.ie/ would be you next stop.

Loads to do and I'm sure the lads will give other suggestions.

If you arrive in Cork you should head down to the Mizzen head, followed by Sheeps head followed by the ring of Beara, you could do all that in two days, or four depending on how you want to ride.

I can send you a Mapsource file with lovely roads if you desire. Places to stay which I recommend.

Crookhaven, night one
Allihies, night two
Dingle, night three
then off to Dublin for your ferry....

Have a great trip, if the weather continues as it is now it'll be fantastic:aidan

Thank you guys. Yes the Mapsource will make everything easier until I get some proper mapping.

Erich, thanks for the suggestion. Would my itinerary look like this (I would like to include as many b roads as possible: http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?ie=U...=53.65115,-9.041748&spn=2.780468,9.678955&z=7

Note,
Mizzen head still closed for repairs unable to see anything other than museum shop, cafe.

Sorry Ericgs, for some funny reason it's not working; I thought I had copied the itinerary, but now I see that the Google map is empty. Could you put it in the Map source format, please.

Thanks D.G.

Don't know how to. One of the lads might be able to I'll see what I can do.

The cliffs of Mohair..........:blast

EDIT; The guy is arriving in Cork, why send him up to see cliffs he has to pay to see....

:comfort Ok guys, "don't panic". Thanks a lot for your assistance, I've got it all figured out and saved to the Mapsource. If everything goes as planned we should land at the area (Ireland) some time between Sept. 23rd - 25th and start exploring the countryside. I have also discovered a route at the (peddling) bike site that should take me through Wales, Hereforshire and Oxfordshire's countryside from Holyhead to London. If anyone were in the mood for a bier, once we hit the road there and meet the two Croats in their early twenties, who look, due to some yet undiscovered disease as if they were in mid fifties, I'd be thrilled. Kind regards to everyone.
