Hi Lads n Ladies,
I am going to look at a 2001 650gs dakar tonight with high mileage, is there anything I should look out for when checking it over, I think its just done an overland but not sure looks very well used.
thanks

Joe, back in April, Spout did a 25,000 mile report on his Dakar which listed everything he'd changed/fixed/improved - might be worth a browse on the 650 site : Spout's 25k Dakar report

There's no real 'Dakar' specifics to check for over and above what you would check any bike for. There's quite a few Steering Head Bearing stories but guess it depends more "where" the mileage was done - off-road? Motorway?

Bearings, bearings, bearings. Check the heads and both wheels. Rear shocks seem to go. As do fork seals. And head gaskets. And the back light unit falls off. And the battery doesn't hold a charge. And the fuel pump breaks.

I need a beer.

Cheers, Dan Walsh
