Southend prepares to Shakedown for the NSPCC

On Monday 25 April thousands of motorcyclists will rev their motors to raise funds for the NSPCC by taking part in Ace Cafe London’s 13th Annual Southend Shakedown.

Organised by the world famous “Ace” in North London, the event has become an Easter bank holiday motorcycling institution, with riders travelling from the Ace Cafe London around the North Circular Road, making their way to Southend up A12 for a day of fun in the popular seaside town.

Ace Cafe London's managing director Mark Wilsmore said: "Each year the cafe's Southend Shakedown includes a charity aspect focusing on children. This year Ace Cafe London is supporting the NSPCC, we hope that you will too."

Gwen Pearson, NSPCC head of local fundraising for North London and East of England, said: “We are delighted that the Ace Café has chosen to support the NSPCC again this year.

“Funds raised will help fund services like ChildLine, the UK's free, 24-hour helpline for children in distress or danger, and the NSPCC Helpline, the UK's free, confidential 24-hr helpline for anyone worried about a child's safety. None of these services and projects would be possible without the continued generosity of donors, fundraisers and supporters.”

Riders can donate on the day or online at www.virginmoneygiving.com/southendshakedown.

Motorcycling legend Carl Fogarty and his wife Michaela, who are supporters of the NSPCC, say: “As parents, we believe that all children should have the chance to grow up in a loving environment. This is why we have supported the NSPCC for over nine years and it is rewarding to know that our support has played a part in ending cruelty to children. We think that the NSPCC's work with vulnerable children is crucial and are proud to be associated with the Charity." Carl goes on to say "I would encourage all those of you taking part in the Ace Cafe's Southend Shakedown to support the work of the NSPCC by doing whatever you can to help. Your generosity, however large or small, is highly valued and greatly appreciated; it will make a tremendous difference to lives of thousands of children in this country.”

There will also be the opportunity to meet Mick Duckworth, the author, who will be on the Ace stand at Southend signing copies of his recently published comprehensive new book "Ace Times – Speed thrills and tea spills, a cafe and a culture".

Monday 25 April, 10.30am departure from Ace Cafe London, Ace Corner, North Circular Road, Stonebridge, London, NW10 7UD. Visit www.ace-cafe-london.com for more information.
