Where to next...?

Advice from those in the know, please....

SWMBO and I are currently in Kennebunk, Maine, about 30 miles South of Portland where we've just been today. We have 9 days left; flying out from Newark on the evening of Sat 9th July. Apart from an invitation to stay on a animal reservation in upstate New York at some point before then, our plans are somewhat fluid.

Keep heading North, into Canada and Nova Scotia or head West, through Vermont, Niagra., down to Washington DC - what sayest thou...?

Few ideas

... Head on to Portland and beyond, nice bars and micro-brews downtown, buy lobster straight off the boats in 'down-east' (the coast beyond Portland) Bar Harbour and the Arcadia National Park is a nice part.

... Still plenty of time to tour through New Hampshire and Vermont on the way back. Head back to NY/Newark via the western part of Massachussetts, an area known as the Berkshires (large town is Sheffield) Much nicer than I-95

... If you go south of the 'tri-state' Philadelphia and Baltimore are both pretty cool. Or try Annapolis and the Maryland shore as an alternative to DC.
