Anyone else suffered from lock-ups on their SPIII or am I just blessed? Had this happen 6 times on the way back from the Battleaxe meet on Monday.

Lock-up - Whilst the unit is on/routing the whole thing freezes, display/buttons the whole deal - only resolved by removing all power source and switching back on again.

Looks like I'm going to lose the unit for two weeks while it enjoys a holiday in Romsey-sur-Mer!!

You could try installing the latest update from Garmin. Whilst called an update it in fact replaces the existing software on your receiver.

Might be worth giving Garmin a phone call first. They're very helpful.

Farewell my two-week wonder!

Spoke to Garmin Europe and it seems my SPIII is indeed a sick bunny and needs to visit the hospital - had I installed the latest beta release they would've presumed that to be the problem and asked me to 'roll-back' to the V2.32 release (might be buggier than they are letting on folks???).

So bye-bye SPIII see you in two weeks time - don't forget to send us a postcard.

Dirk - can I have my old V back please? :(

Lock-ups

I was most excited to see the word "lock-ups" in a new thread wondering how on earth a GPS could cause one. In my experience they are normally caused by high doses of testosterone/and or sildenafil (Viagra). I had for a moment thought a cheaper alternative had been found.

Pfizer shareholders can rest - panic over!

Uhmm how about NO! :D
About 8 miles from Battleaxe on Monday my GPS also just froze and the light was on with the alarm going. Pressing buttons did buggerall and eventually had to stop and unplug the thing. After that it seemed to work fine and even managed to get me home without getting lost ;)

Has not done it since and have you had this expierence before?

Cheers

Never experienced it at all with the V I'm afraid - did ya get a receipt ;)

As both our experiences happened on Monday night returning from the Battleaxe pub - do you think it was some supernatural phenomenon :alian ? Maybe North London/South Herts is haunted :white ?

Is it possible that your alternator is affecting the power supply? You could do with some electronic power supply unit to maintain a steady voltage if this is the case. Maplins may be able to help you make one or have one in stock.

Off topic, but which Battleaxe pub did you go to, is it the one near Elstree ? if so just down the road from me.

Indeed it was - it is the current venue of choice for the meeting formerly known as Sarrat. If you do a search on Sarrat you'll get the lowdown on it - else give City Slicker a shout - I was only visiting as its a bit off my patch but you'll be welcome at the next one for sure :)

Lockups

Had this problem when I bought a BMW Navigator.
First thing to do when I got back home was to download the software V2.4.
Been OK since.

On the Garmin website you can read
Changes made from version 2.22 to 2.31:

Maximum AutoRoute points increased from 254 to 1200.
Australian map support.
Added support for finding multiple exit roads with the same name.

**Fixed intermittent nearest POI shutdown/lockup.**

Fixed missing duplicate cities when finding cities by name.

I loaded the 2.40 software into my SPIII last night.

Amongst other bits and bobs, it's supposed to be quicker when junctions are close together.

I'll see how it performs today.
