Just had my first weekend trail riding with new tyres for a while.
I had a Michelin Desert on the front and a MEFO Stonemaster on the rear.
They where both cracking tyres!
Lots of mud about and the desert was great for this, as was the MEFO.

Only downside was on steep slippy rock I could feel the MEFO slipping a bit. This could have been my poor clutch control though!!!

Very happy and they didn`t break the bank.

I got them from here.

Just fitted the same combination to the airhead - I'll be testing this weekend foir grip and wear rate over the coming months.

I'm looking for something that can handle/last a 300 mile road ride to a rally, a 1500 mile rally (80%) offroad and then a 1000 Mile road ride home.

I'll be using HD tubes and OKA sealant.

I think you wll be fine mate. I`ve been doing plenty of road miles on mine too and there is NO signs of wear yet:thumb2

How are you getting on with that Desert on the front, I've used them quite a bit and found them useless on wet rock and almost lethal on wet roads because they're hard? Brilliant in the dry though.

Only had a very quick look at the Desert fitted to Gaz's bike but it doesn't feel as hard as I remember Deserts being. Don't know if they have changed the compound or it's just my memory failing me :rob:D

A better front on heavier bikes is the Michelin Baja, slightly softer and much better grip at the expense of wear rate:thumb

But they're difficult to get hold of now:mad:

Edit: No wonder they're hard to get hold of, they've stopped making them.
Bit of a debate on the Desert v Baja here which echos my thoughts.

Anyone wanna buy a Desert Front?:D

Just back from a few hours on Hertfordshires lanes.... I quite like this set up, lots of traction and they felt ok on the road sections.

I'll treat them to a blast down the M1 tomorrow (to the Ace)

It's a shame they don't do (or seem to do ) their MFE99 'Super Explorer' in a 17 incher :(

You may find MEFO and Mitas have a connection, being part of the Barum tyre organisation iirc.

There are some alternative 17" tyres shown for several tarmac/trail ratios.

I'm still undecided whether to fit the pair of E-09s we got for Welsh trails on my 640, I think they're best suited to a drier climate, particularly the front:nenau?

Just fitted some of these to my Airhead:

I'm quite impressed so far, very nice on the road and seem to be good on the dirt

Had a few hours on muddy Hertfordshire lanes today... I'm very impressed with theses, of course they are not as good as a dedicated offload tyre but they seem to find a lot of grip and when they slide it's quite progressive.

The really good bit is they are great on the road
