I usually secure my bike on the ferry with a ratchet strap over the seat. However, I suspect now I've got an RT with a heated seat, this may not be a wise idea - I assume there's a risk of damaging the heating elements?

Ferrys

Put it on the side stand, and go to the Bar. If you require ratchet straps, ropes, tie downs, Fecking boats upside down!

Just be sure to use a foam pad (all the boats have them now) across the seat under the strap. It will no more weight on your seat than a lardy arse - that they were built to cosset!

I've had this concern, particuarly when no foam padding about.
Mines survived a few tie downs without foam, I have bunged my spare gloves under the strap before to limit the pressure point.
If there's a newspaper about that could be used folded up a little to spread the load a little.
