Guys and Girls,

I've just noticed a pair of wires that come off the loom just below the headlight bulbs which aren't attached to anything. I've had the bike since December and everything that could possibly go wrong has, leading me to suspect previous abuse of the bike. There is a bracket on the fork for an ABS sensor which has no sensor in it - are the wires for that?

The speedo has been playing up since I got it, the indicated speed being relative to the revs as well as the speed of the wheels. Does the '01 Dakar take the speed from the front of rear ABS sensor?

Thanks in advance,

Rob

Your bike probably doesn't have ABS, that's why there's no sensor.
The speedo picks up from an ABS ring on the rear.

Thanks Tim.

Any idea what the wires might be? They are visible from the top coming out from just below the headlight.

Looking at the state of the wiring on the bike as a whole, I'm seriously considering the idea of replacing the entire loom. I reckon this could be a good fix. Particularly as I've just found yet another bundle of cables attached to nothing.
