Just downloaded the latest PGSW speed camera database to the Montana. When I go to proximity alarms, though, I can't find a way of enabling alerts for all of the speed camera, it seems to want to do them one by one.

I found (in setup>tones) that proximity alarms can be turned on - but how do you define which ones?

Anyone found out how to enable the whole speed cam POI database for alerts?

Montana Proximity Alerts

Berlin,

I have just downloaded the PGPSW to my montana, and it is all working fine.
I notice that you say that you have downloaded to the device itself. This is probably causing you the problem. If you read the instructions on the PGPSW site, towards the end, there is a glitch in Garmin's POI downloader. The site recomends that you download the file to the SD card only. Garmin have been notified of the issues but it is still present.(probably so that you only download their database!)

Once you have done this go to 'where to' then 'extras' and touch on 'all databases' Oh, i forgot, the database needs to be in a separate folder on the SD card called 'POI'.

Going forward with the Montana, there is a fantastic thread running on ADV rider, with some really clued up guys, I have had most of my issues with the unit sorted out through their collective knowledge.

Hope that helps

Simon

Thanks for that Simon - really helpful. I copied the PGPSW data to the sd card in a folder called garmin\poi.

On the Montana I touch Where to>Extras (which is new!)

I then get a list, "All Databases" at the top but listing all the various speed camera files below (eg "pocketgps_uk_specs_40, etc).

I then touch "all databases"

Is that it? Are all the alerts then enabled?

Montana Alerts

Hi Berin

This is still quite new to me also, if you select 'All data bases' it appears to select all that is in the 'POI' folder.
I also have the EU database and a Camra real ale database in there and they appear to be enabled.
The only thing I am unsure of is that you may need to select them each time you use the unit, only time will tell. Keep an eye on the thread over on ADV rider as I am sure this sort of thing will crop up in the future.

Loading .gpi Files

These files are loaded on to the unit via a piece of free Garmin software called 'POI' loader.

There is a very good video tutorial on the PGPSW pocket gps web site.

It is very important that the files are loaded onto the SD card and not the internal memory of the unit, otherwise they wont work. You need a folder on the SD card called 'POI'

I hope that helps

GPI Files

All I can suggest is a call to Garmin or post the question on their forum, or alternatively post on the GPS section of ADV Rider, there are some real specialists on there especialy in the Montana section
