Recently bought a pre owned 2010 R1200RT from a dealer.

The manufacturers warranty ran out at the end of June but I have a BMW pre owned bike warranty for a further 12 months.

I don't think this covers cosmetic stuff ie rust etc.

I noticed yesterday that the chrome headers are forming patches of rust, this wasn't there or at least wasn't noticeable when I bought it as they were so well polished I guess they must have got rid of it.

My question is.....bearing in mind it is out of warranty if I got them re-chromed over the winter period by someone is the finish likely to be more durable than the BMW chroming appears to have been.

i have no experience of the process etc so no idea.

Thanks.

Wouldn't know, but another option is ceramic coating. This seems very durable and doesn't seem to discolour. Sure I've seen an article on here about it, or it may have been on ADVrider.
