Hi All,

Has anyone else noticed the 'cheap' 2610s for sale in ebay? There are several going and they are at 450USD...

However, I thought all this was a little dodgey, espcially when the feedback is all from sellers and that the units are in London but she is based in Canada. I have since been told that they are Americas spec not Atlantic.

I have read a few posts that the Americas versions are hassle but for 250ish GBP?

I would appreciate some help....

They are no longer on there as they were only listed for 1day (again wierd).

HEre is the email I sent to the seller:

All the units are located in London.
This are americas versions not Atlantic.
The" buy it now price for one Garmin 2610 is 450 US$.
Are you ready to buy?

Hi,

I think you'll have a load of emails that want to know
these questions:
1: the ad says you are based in london but payment is
in USD? You are also based in Canada, please explain.
2: are these Atlantic or americas versions?
3.I hate to do this but all your feedback is from
sellers, it seems that you haven't got any feedback
from people buying from you. Why? It looks really
dodgy...I am sorry to say

Even though I would like one of this GPS systems, I
really need convincing that I should buy from
you...please don't be offended, it is a lot of money

Thanks

I have a US basemap 2610 as do a few others I know. They can be made to work in Europe very successfully, but at a price!

The biggest single issue that you have to resolve is how you get hold of City Navigator Europe together with its unlock code for your US 2610. If you can crack that issue, or if you intend simply to use the unit in the Americas, I'm sure that it's a good deal.

However, the price of City Navigator Europe will make your US unit much more expensive than a European unit bought legitimately in the UK (or from Europe).

There are also issues with screen image at certain zoom levels. These can largely be overcome by loading GArmin WorldMap alongside the CN, but that's another cost issue to consider.

My advice would be 'don't do it'!

Greg
