God I'm such a luddite :blast

Why has my route gone like this ??

It was created in basecamp not some other software, and I don't know what the feck i've done.

Please reply in the language of a 9 year old ...

Ta :D

edit ...

You'll see there are two routes. One route is fine, but the first route has done what it's done. The second route starts where the straight line first route stops ... (if yer get my jist..)

Did you create the route in a different version of City Navigator from the one in which you're displaying it in the that pic?

Ummmmmmmmm :D

Good question!

I have had a tidy up on the computer (for me this is very dangerous ) and did delete mapping 2010, but I did these routes within a few minutes of each other ... I'm prettty confident I wouldnt have done one in 2013, and one in an earlier map ... (which I've now uninstalled ... )

:nenau

That's the only times I've seen routing like that, ie when routes have been created on a different version of CN from the the one that's being used to display them....:nenau

Try "recalculating" the straight-line route. That should do the trick

Sorry blokes, in the ten minutes i've been off line I've re-done the route and deleted the old one so all sorted.

I think Schtum is not far off the mark - there's something dodgy that's gone on.

Thinking about it, i'm sure my maps were 2012, and now suddenly they're 2013.4 ?? Have I checked for updates in base camp and it's refreshed my maps ??

Next time I'll try just recalculating ... :thumb2

(Corsica in September ... :roll)

I would guess that the second (straight line route) was created in a different map version.

I have seen something similar on GPS devices themselves.

The problem is that the points between the two straight lines are not on the roads as such. They just hover (if you like) waiting for the software mapping to go.... "aha, he must mean that it's hovering just above this road" and colours it in with all the squiggles. If the two maps are too different from one another it can't pull the stunt off, doing the next best thing by creating straight lines.

One last thought. Is it possible to create 'Direct routes', rather like the waypoints used in dessert or sea racing, where there are no roads, just points on the globe. If so, did you select hat option? If you did, you will get just the picture you describe.

Originally it wasn't like that - it was on the road as it should be.

I don't know WTF I did :D I am ashamed to say that I am utterly shite on a computer. Porn, shopping, forums, Rapid feedback reports, oh ... and I can check my bank account too (Now that's cool ....)

:D

I had this the other week, and it was indeed with routes created in another version of CN, on a different computer, running a different OS.

eventually I found a workaround after a straightforward recalculate didn't work.

Edit route and reverse. Recalculate.

Back into edit and reverse again. Recalculate.

That seemed to fix it.

That sounds like the Garmin equivalent of "turn it off and restart". I must remember that

Hi

I had a similar problem and found out the following;

Basecamp uses the maps on the Garmin Unit and does by default save the maps on the PC.

Basecamp will do strange things with the routes if your Sat Nav is not connected when planning routes as it can't use the latest maps.

Anyone else found this ?

Yep, agree with you Joth.

Pain if you want to plan big route as have to have satnav connected (and you're trying to plan during quiet time at work :augie).

Also pain if you download to satnav and don't select recalculate - you suddenly get the straighline route at a crucial moment in your trip.

Does not give you the option of downloading new maps to PC anymore.
There is a work around (got it off here somewhere). In a nutshell, take out mem card if you have one, and try to download large map, says won't fit, then gives option of saving to PC instead. Well I think that's what I did.

Can't get MapInstall to work, as that used to be a good option.

Another problem has reared it's head :D

If I'm in the middle of planning a route, maybe take a wrong road and then use the 'undo' arrow to take that section of road away .... my route cursor then won't pick up again on the existing route ??

Does that make sense?

So after 'undoing' a wrong section, I can't carry on but in effect have to start a new route from where it stopped which is a real pain when you're planning a days route.

Any suggestions (please??)

Sorry .... :D

Hi

2 Ways I know of;

1. Create waypoints where you want to go and add them to your route by double clicking the route and click on the green plus to add them.

2. Create a second route, then select both routes (bottom left of the screen), right click on them and select "advanced>Join the Selected routes" from the popup menu and then join them together.

Just another note;

When creating long or complicated routes make a route with 2 way points (the start and finish) then use the Insert tool to adjust your route between the start and finish, or create waypoints and insert them.

Oooo :eek

Nice one - Didn't know about that ... Thanks Joth ... :beerjug:

Clever boy !!!!!!!!!!!

Just done that and it works a treat .... excellent ... thank you very much :thumb2

Every now and then I'll flip tabs on the lap top (or use the undo cursor) and 'loose' the continuing line of thread that comes from the route tool.

Your stitching them together tip is really useful ... Nice one ..

Best way I have found is:

1. Create start and finish waypoint. (either using find function or by Google maps to transfer to Device then device transfer to Mac)

2. Create any other waypoints you want to see on the way.

3. Start to form the route with the Route Planning tool - drag and drop the start and the finish to the Route Planning tool "start / finish" boxes. Then drag in between these any waypoints you want to see on route.

4. press enter and the route calculates and shows on the map - then you can exit the Route Planning Dialogue box.

5. Now flick between Hand tool (ctrl + H) and pointer (ctrl + S) to drag and alter the route. To alter the route make sure you are using the pointer tool and hover over the route then press alt + left mouse button or trackpad - then drag and drop the route where you want to go.

6. If you make a mistake use cmd + z to undo the last change.

Instructions are for a Mac......

Getting better with it the more I use it and the best tutorials I have found are the ones Bumpkin has on Youtube - they are excellent - thanks Bumpkin.....
