I'm having a front & rear Ohlins fitted at my next service (bike is standard '02 1150GS), any advice from members using this kit on setting up would be appreciated.

Your ohlins will probably have medium springs fitted
medium is for about 140 - 190 lbs ish
the shocks are set up at the factory so leave alone and just
adjust the pre load on the back for passenger etc .

Enjoy the ride

Adrian,

As the G' man says enjoy the ride. I've got Ohlins on mine and they really do make a difference. Your only real consideration would be if you had or or were going to add weight to your bike ie. heavy panniers, larger fuel tank or the bike was going to be used off-road.

The Ohlin units can be made up to suit your specific riding style and weight. One of the elements in this case to look at is the "spring" grade. Heavier/off-road bike equals stronger springs, means the shock is having to do less work, will last longer and be better suited to the job.

I ordered tougher springs for the reasons listed. Here's the code numbers for the springs, before and after:

Front Back
Standard spring 1096-10 1095-64
stiffer option 1096-11 1095-79

Bearing in mind that msot dealers are not suspension specialist and will simply put Ohlins on and be happy. If your going to spend the money you may as well get them "spot on".

Hope this helps

Simon,

any idea on ow much stiffer springs cost? I've had my Ohlins fitted, so I'd have to replace the springs....

Mike,

Suprisingly enough there less than I thought they'd be....£37 or there abouts.

Get them from Harris Performance Parts on 01992 532500.
