GARMIN 2610 V 2620

I have just purchased a 2620 and am a little worried after reading the possible problems with vibration on the GS can i ask

has any body purchased one of these and used it on a bike and had hard drive failure?

if so was it during normal road use or was it during off road

any reply welcome

I cannot comment on the 2610/2620 request but I can say that I did have a PDA with the type of microdrive used in the 2620. I used the PDA for sat Nav but when mounted on the bike it continually lost the "place". This was due to the vibration on normal road use, and it was fitted to a ST1300 pan. When removed from the mount on the bike it worked fine, i.e. in jacket pocket or in tank bag. The problem also went away when I replaced the microdrive with a 2gb scandisc memory card.

Sorry to have to tell you but its recommended not to use the 2620 on the bike for the very reason you stated.

Trade it for a 2610

I have seen several reports of failing units both here and on Adventure Rider. A search should turn up the relevant info. The drives die very quickly indeed, so they are pretty useless on a bike.

Trade it in.
