Navigator V problem with PC

Hope someone can help. I am trying to get my nav V recognised by my pc. It is a faily old one running windows XP. When I plug in the USB it makes the usual noise & starts searching but fails to find the device ? This is the same if I try doing it through Garmin connect, it searches but fails to find my device. I have tried the usual, all USB ports incl one at the back of the PC. I have read that windows XP is no longer supported so is this why it won't work. I already had base camp loaded on the PC & have tried removing & connecting the Nav V again with no luck. Is my PC missing some drivers required?? The nav V screen shows that the USB is connected but that's it.

Your usb sockets on PC probably knackered

Make sure the PC is on the tinterweb before you plug in the nav so it can download the required drives

Sometimes my Macbook cannot find my NavV and for some reason, opening Basecamp first has solved the problem. Weird. May not be the same for the PC though.
