Today I took one of these V7's out the new 2015 model with the 6 speed box

Never ridden a Guzzi before though ....

Would I buy one?

The lovely V twin motor for only 50hp was strong and gearing well suited to the bike, with the new 6speed box.

Gearbox was very slick.

Bike pulled well and will see a ton+.

Backroads - the suspension was harsh though, ok on smooth roads, but tended to 'tip in' on a downhill hairpin, too much.

Windblast was fine and the stock exhaust note, was beautiful - very addictive.

Around town the fuelling was glitchy and you had to cover the clutch because it lurched a bit.

To be fair the bike only had 400 miles on it and maybe would bed in - shame the low speed fuelling was not what I expected.

Finish and quality was spot on

Unfair to compare to a GSA, when the Stelvio is a fairer match

V7 would make a great second bike to customise though

Just the job for your six month 'riding season'. :augie

Better off with a mint V50 for a third of the price that will appreciate in value. Although only 2/3 the capacity they are almost as powerful and handle as well.

Never mind that three course supper with 4 beers £29.95 That's not bad at the Carpenters arms

Good idea Mark

Cookie said he prefers the early ones too

I thought around town the fuelling was dire on this particular bike - I bet carbs would be better

Looking through eBay & classifieds there are a lot of low mile v7's for sale, which usually means they are probably marmite

If you want a bike that's gonna need a lot of TLC rather than a modern 'get on and ride' bike then yes, I might agree with you.
Oh, and if you think a V7 is small, swing a leg over a V50!

Careful JB they end up getting under your skin do these Guzzi's.

There's a guy who specialises in making fuel enrichers for the guzzi's I believe it's called "Finebau Forge".Cures the low down fuelling issues.

Presumeing you took it out from Teasdales...By god he's got some lovely gear in there now.

I'm taking the Stelvio up tomorrow for a map upgrade.

I should have said, I like the old "big block" guzzis, not so much the tiddlers :)

I'd have thought the new v7s were nice bikes though, if you like that sort of thing.

Does yours suffer around town?

The v7 was very disappointing around town, what time you over there Thurs?

It did suffer around town a bit plus quite a bit of throttle snatch. I fitted a mixture enricher which did improve things, but I do very little town riding.

I'm booked in at 9am to have the latest map upgrade. Could be a total waste of time as I'm booked into Hilltop on the 27th, but if the latest Guzzi remap makes significant improvements I may save myself a few quid.

Nothing wrong with the bike as it is but if improvements can be made then I'm all for it.

That is true. Compare the size of my V50 to my 1100 and big block Cali. It is a refreshing change as it is so tiny and relatively light. It is comfy enough for me and I am 5` 10"

I test rode a new V7 in 2013. Agreed, rear suspension ridiculously harsh, the front wasn't too bad. Fuelling was also an issue, stalled several times rolling to a halt. Was a brand new out of the box demo bike, still not good.

The exhaust header fixing on the left pot also undid itself during the test ride, the raised noise levels got my attention and narrowly avoided loosing the nut.

Overall an attractive bike which I'll probably have when I want to downsize. Spend a few £'s sorting the suspension and fuel mapping, stick on a screen and frames for soft panniers and you have a lightweight non-motorway tourer.

Not a lot of power but it has really good torque from very low revs, a pretty flat torque curve too Supposed to be very good on fuel as well.

I agree, real pity about the fuelling as it was dire at low speeds and on a 2 week old bike:blast

I didn't think the suspension was up to much either and MG want about £700 for the Bitubo piggyback shocks off the Racer

The accessories prices are eye watering too, £299 for a chrome classic (Stadium type) rack and similar for the screen, £1000+ for Arrow pipes - they make BMW look reasonable

Parts prices were also a bit steep

Shame, because with that and the fuelling, it put a bit of a damper on it

A pair of Hagon shocks would probably be way cheaper and perhaps the chap at Hilltop could do a remap on the bike to make it fuel properly. The recent ones only have a single injector to worry about.

Must be aftermarket parts that fit instead of giving Guzzi your hard earned wedge.
