Having just been in the ditch because of oil outside Easingwold, my 2005 GSA 1150 with 18000 miles will be written of as its a bit bent. Any idea what I should hold out for on payout?

You could do some research like checking completed sales on ebay That way you will have something better to refer to than a mate down the pubs says.....;)

When I was in a similar situation the insurance company involved would not accept eBay and used auto trader instead. This worked in my favour and I ended up getting enough of a payout for my 05 GSA SE with 50k miles on the clock to buy a 2009 1200 GSA with 28k miles on the clock.....

I just spoke to Carole Nash Claims dept and they are organising Plantec to sort out collection and inspection in view to Repair/Write off. Time to get all the bits taken off before they organise collection.

Valuation.

Find as many similar age / general condition / mileage bikes to your bike as you can. Useful sources include:

eBay

MCN

Ads on UKGSer

In fact anywhere that will help you establish a reasonable market value. You may well be surprised how generous your insurer turns out to be, if lots of threads on UKGSer are anything to go by. If you believe you are truly being robbed, legged-over and ripped-off by your insurer, stick by your guns and use the evidence you've gathered up to prove your case. It probably will not come to it.

Oil on the A19

No, it was on Raskef road, I was going from Easingwold to Dishforth then off back home. It was at the enterence to the public Weighbridge at Agrain and Cowlings builders. It tool 25 minutes for the Police to send a PSCO and it took the council over an hour and a half to come and sand the road which was covered with the contents of someones Hydraulic tank, while I was waiting for recovery a really nice Repsol Fireblade suffered the same fate.

That is bad news - don't use that road much anymore

Looks like someone's tipping gear tank was leaking

Hydraulic oil is far more slippery than diesel

Are the police doing owt or did they just shrug their shoulders?

Didn't give a toss, the PSCO was next to useless. I'll go into Northallerton nick later to see if I can get any info on whether they are going to do anything as the other guy really lost it with them.

Fecking disgrace

If you were at the accident having had one & noting the conditions on the road the Police have a duty of care to other road users to warn them of the accident & oil, if the Fireblade rider crashed AFTER they were at the scene

If the Police hadn't arrived before the 2nd rider had crashed there's not a lot they could do

If the former is the case I would fire an email off to the Chief Constable at Newby Wiske to ask why they failed to warn other road users of the road conditions & led to another rider crashing?

Sorry to hear about your spill......

My office is on the way to Easingwold, through all the back roads, it's a feckin nightmare at the moment with all the crop vehicles knocking about, pulling of hedgerows with out a feckin care in the world..... there was a similar spill near me just the other day when it was a bit rainy that cause a chap on a push bike to cream in..... have you revisited the scene to see if the oil has stained the road? get some pictures of it before it's cleaned up.

Does Agrain and Cowlings builders have any CCTV fitted covering the entrance......A quick search of the footage on the day or days before might reveal the vehicle that caused it.... just a thought give me a shout if you get anywhere with the footage and I'll see if there is any details to be had from it

Regards

Dusty

He had been and gone, Swimbo is a "team leader" in one of the more specialised sections at Newby Wiske, her boss a Chief Super gave someone a F***ing this morning over the lack of involvement yesterday.

Thanks Dusty.

They have no CCTV on the gates as it's away from the offices, and I've plenty pictures on my Iphone and details of a couple of drivers that stopped who were appauled at the condition of the road.

Carole Nash are taking the bike, home insurance will cover kit and sorrymate.com are going to see it I can get a bit from the MIB to cover permium excesses incured due to the incident. It's just a shame I liked the bike so much..

Quite a lot of very slippery oil comes out of a motorcycle's crankcase if it cracks on impact with the road. It spreads a long way.

Lots of people think it's the oil that spilled them off, very often not realising it's actually theirs.

That being said, hydraulic fluid is incredibly slippery. I came across a load in Leicestershire on my way to Donnington Park. We could stand at the top of a small hill and slide down to the bottom in our motorcycle boots, quite happily. Plod and the council were sometime clearing it up with sand and cement dust.... That is after we'd picked my Honda Hornet up. One minute hooning along, the next waltzing along on my back, wonderining why I was now looking at the stars in the night sky. Happy (outcome) days.

I know the GS has a few pints of oil, But with a 40+ yard long and between 3 and 4 foot wide oil slick I think even a GS would struggle to drop that much if the crank was cracked.

If I work out how, i'll post the video of the road after I got out of the ditch.

I know it's a bit crap but this gives an idea of the amount of oil. I took it just after we had pulled the bike from the hedge.

BTW, I'm impressed with the Motec engine bars!!

We had 2 crashes yesterday, whilst out with a group of others:blast

Narrow country lanes, just minor and no drama

One bloke did lay his bike down in a most spectacular way and slid down the road in fine style

Jefferies have done an estimate of £3200 to fix and there pre Crash Valuation is around the £5k mark so i'll have to wait and see what the insurace company say now.

Sounds like a reasonable price although you could maybe get a little higher. North Oxford BMW had a similar bike to yours in the showroom when I called in last Fri - 2005 1150 ADV SE with 18K miles IIRC. Bike was sold but it would be worth finding out how much it went for.

Are you going to buy the bike back and fix up? How bad was the damage?
