I'm popping the first replacement tyre on the back of the R12WC today, SSSI first job was removing the silencer.

I was quite surprised that BMW assembled the joints dry, so even after a mere 4,000 miles it took a bit of a wiggle to get it of.

I'm planning to use coppaslip when I reassemble so that it'll be easier next time.

Any reason not to do this?

After reading here that BMW will refuse engine warranty work if I fit the radiator guard that I've bought, I'm a little wary.

Slap it on, it won't hurt it :thumb2

Oh,, and put the rad guard on, and remove it before you go in for engine warranty work :)

Exactly what Bryn said,I took the silencer off my RT over the weekend for the same reason.
It's a right shite trap under the chrome cover and that flappy valve thing.

All well lubed and back together. Remembering the awful state of the bolts on my R1150R exhaust convinced me it was the right thing to do.

And I'll leave the rad guard off until the dealers had a chance to check the bike over as it's not quite running right. As soon as it's sorted it'll be straight on.
