Obvious really but I forgot to mention that this is an off road ride.

Did the "total beginners day to green laning" day from SBW last year in the mud and was fun.

I'm on road tyres.
Doable with that?

(Was on road tyres last year too)

Just asking because I am reasonably crap offroad :)

This ride is nothing to do with SBW but the site of their new premises is a good meeting place.

I think that all the rain this week will make the going too slippery for road tyres. Most of us are from the TRF but we are trying to encourage the use of Big Bikes hence the title.

No doubt that a small bike is much easier to ride off road but we enjoy the challenge of taking big bikes off road. No messing about with trailers and vans to get to the start.

Yeah, I figured. ;)

That's why I asked.
When I went green laning with the GS last year, it rained the full week before that (and during) and I spent the day in mud. :D
It was actually really fun, but I'm worried about being slower and keep others from progressing (and enjoying their day).
Rain + offroad + a pair of Tourance Next with 600miles left in the thread doesn't look like an optimal combination :D :D :D

Bummer, cause I'm really looking forward to do some more green laning with the GS. I'll follow future posts here. Thanks! ;)

You are welcome to come if you want.

I did BMW ORS Level 2 in the wet and it was much better than Level 3 which was very dry. It makes a change to have a hobby that gets better when it rains.

Given the crappy weather I'm getting really comfortable on my sofa for the weekend ahead :D
But I'll gladly pop over in any upcoming ride. Looking forward to get used to green laning a bit more... I still have some issues every once in a while:

funny enough I was on that ride out too! sunk my GS once, dropped once...but it was quite entertaining event I must admit... only cleaning my Rukka and GS was not so much! 😁

You're the one who "found" the car bumper at the bottom of the water crossing? :)

A couple of us did a bit of off roading yesterday over in Essex. This doesn't look too bad but the photo doesn't do it justice. The ditch is four feet deep and it took us a couple of hours to drag it along the ditch and get it out.

Was a great day out. The easy bits always catch you out.
