Some of you will remember me putting up a thread 6 months ago asking for advice as to which tent we should take on our world trip in 2003. Both the number of replies and quality of information received was fabulous. One of the reasons this BB is so great!

We've been lucky enough to secure sponsorship and support from "Taunton Leisure". These guys have 4 shops in the South-West and keep in stock a huge variety of outdoor clothing and equipment website here: http://www.tauntonleisure.co.uk

Well...Lisa and I picked up our new home/tent:D yesterday and both think it's bloody fantastic. We ended up ordering a "Keron 4 GT" made by a specialist manufacturer in Sweden called Hilleberg. You can see their site here:http://www.hilleberg.se

The tent is one of the most well thought out and put together we've seen. It's a 4 seasons, 4 person tent. The inner and outer goes up together, so no horrible wet tent if you have to put it up in snow or rain. Lisa and I put the thing up in under 3 minutes, just four poles and 4 pegs.

Anyway, thank you to everyone who responded to my earlier post your advice was really appreciated.

Have a great X-mass, see you all in 2003

Cheers

Ilike the look of what's going on in the centre section of the bottom image - can I join in?
;) ;) ;)

Yosi,

The clue is in the images - in the main compartment there a three persons as Simon & Lisa make it quite clear they want to meet local people in their travels and explore their diverse 'cultures' and then we have the servants quarters and kitchen area!!! :D

Ian, Yosi & Judge,

Damm, I've been looing at those diagrams for months and never saw anything but a few people and some rucksacks in profile, now you've said it all I can see is the group at it in the middle of the picture. If i'd known I would have paid more:D , told you great tents:D :D :D

...and yeah, of course the front area is for servants, does'nt every body take thier's...oh..err.

Cheers

It would have been pricey, however, we are fortunate enough to have been sponsored by Taunton Leisure;), who sell Hilleberg tents.

I have to say that even if we had no sposorship, this tent would have still been on our wish list.

How are doing with the graphics and your Flash project:D

Looks like you've got yourselves a tent you'll be well pleased with. With the luxury of riding two bikes, size and weight are less of an issue than when backpacking, cycling, or riding with a pillion.

Can you separate the outer from the inner and pitch only the outer? Sometimes it's beneficial as a shelter (from sun as well as rain) and to cook under. It also means that the tent can be split between the two of you.

Hoop/tunnel tents are not particularly sturdy in windy weather or with heavy snow. If it doesn't have them, add plenty of extra external guy lines to each of the hoops.

When are you guys heading off. Must be getting close now.

Simon:)

Simon,

Yep, the inner & outer can be detached and in turn be put up separately if needed. The inner can also be shortened or lengthened whilst attached, should you require more or less vestibule area in front or rear. The inner also has a built mosquito net.

As far as snow and wind is concerned, I'm with you. I thought tunnel tents weren’t particularly resistant to either. Hilleberg say this one is. I've spoken to others who've used the tent and everyone came back with the same story "bullet-proof".

Do you remember a few months back? 4 ladies were headline news for trekking un-aided to both the Arctic and the Antarctic poles, pretty serious stuff. The Keron4 GT was the tent they took.

You can pitch it with 4 pegs, however, there are plenty of well placed "double" guy lines to really anchor it should the need arise.

The pack weight is only 5.7kg (I think) and the tent and poles will be carried separately to minimise pack size.

We're off in May, we can hardly wait, but we've still so much to do.

Merry Christmas, see you all in 2003

Cheers

Not practical on the back of a GS but a sort of christmasy shot of a tent up for global adventure.

the diagram of the inside of the 'tent' is really the layout of a new style of Egyptian Tomb - it's obvious, look at the angles.
