Try pissing on a speed camera next time. They're getting more and more prevalent everywhere in France these days. Even if you get snapped on UK plates, rumour has it that there's some sort of reciprocity twixt France and the DVLA to endorse licences. Can't really believe it myself.
Watch out also for gendarmes lurking at STOP junctions. If you don't stop (even if there's no traffic) they'll do you for a fine up to 90 euros.

Je suis très désolé....
Obviously you've bin brung up proppa.

I understand that whilst the Frogs (or any other EU country) cannot yet touch your licence they can pursue you back across the channel for the fine. They will do this if they have a clear cut example of you excessively speeding.

A loophole in our law allows the DVLA to reveal all of your personal details to anyone who approaches them and has a reasonable excuse as to why they need the details (for a small fee of course). There is a company down South who specialise in helping foreign governments and private parking enforcement companies to enforce fines.

Only the bl**dy UK would allow this nonsense. Can you imagine the French government hanging it's own citizens out to dry 'for a small fee'?

A French fine currently has no legal standing in the UK, so while they can come after it, there is no point of law which means you must or can be made to pay. What they're counting on is that most people will cough up the £50ish after a couple of threatening letters, rather than waste time and effort going to Small Claims Court.... which will chuck it out anyway.

i got a letter from the irish police last week, telling me that when i do get an irish licence, it's going to have 2 points on it :)

Not for long !! I think next year, some 6 countries will sign bi-lateral agreements allowing one country to pass along the fine to the other. Means docking license points and getting the fine. France and Luxembourg have already done it...

Loverly. If you get enough Irish points do they send a letter telling you when you get an Irish licence you won't get it?

:clap

A visiting Yank reading a directory at Taronga Zoo Sydney, he slowly intoned, 'OK, kangaroo, koala, kookaburra … yeah, sure - but what sort of animal is a kiosk?' " :eek

I think Turkey has some catching up to do. Urban Areas speed limit all vehicles 50km/h, National roads motorcycles 70 km/h cars 90 km/h, Highways motorcycles 80 km/h cars 120 km/h. :spitfire
