mechanical and first aid training required

As I'm looking to cross the USA next Spring with some off-pavement riding, I want to get a better understanding of how I and the GS work.
Do any of you have knowledge of where I can get mechanics night classes/weekend classes and first aid training?

If it's near Colchester all the better.

I'm not sure about committing to signing up as a means of repairing a bike, not only delaying departure to the USA but also creating a diversion via Iraq that's a little inconvenient. :mcgun

I do however salute your lateral thinking.
