At the time I estimate that the event will be heading from Inverness south, I am usually heading that way as my loved ones live near Saint Andrews so that portion should be covered.

That's a hell of a route you've got ...some miles.

But!! For the rendezvous with us low-landers, I suggest the point at which the A1 hits a roundabout, just north of Berwick town.
There's a Morrison's Supermarket, petrol station and maybe a cafe, depending on the time of day...... and a McDonald's....

It should be really obvious on a map..

......don't know if this any good to you......it's about 370 miles/9 hours.......

I've ridden this route in both directions, many times........

If I knew time/date of departure from Inverness I'd try & ride contra-route and meet you north of Dundee and then take you across Fife, through Edinburgh etc.......

Cheers

Hi Egon.
Just posted a reply to the Duchess's begging letter on the Scottish Section for more helpers from this neck of the woods - I actually originally offered to help when this idea was first discussed - but I think I got lost as things got more organised??
Anyway, let me know what I can help with regarding the preparations - I know most of the route fairly well I'm more than happy to meet up somewhere convenient to discuss the plans, or to accompany you on at least part of the route? - depending how it fits in with shifts!!
On the day of the run I'll either be solo or accompanied by Mrs Grizzly - depending on how it fits in with her work?

Cheers............................Grizzly

I guess I must be one of those new GS riders! I live between Aberdeen and Montrose and am happy to help if I am around (work days can vary). Let me know what's needed and when and I'll see what I can do. At the very least I can provide tea and bacon rolls 200m from the route!
Cheers

I'm in the process of doing a BTBR style lighting makeover since
we are gonna be doing virtually all of the leg in darkness. :mooney

I am sorry I will be letting everyone down but I am not going to be doing the event in September. I hope you have enough time to find another rider. Good luck with it all.

Tony,

Don't Oonyack and "Moira" remind you a bit of Norman Bates and his "mother"? Thank God I'm riding Region 9 (albeit with Oonyack but he'll still be in his normal "Johnny" clothes ;) )

Region 10 riders your GS lady is now officially on board and 'live' in your regional press release.

If you can't see Moira press your F5 key and re-open the press release document.

If you have any problems please let me know by return.

I stay in Aberdeen, very close to the coast road and 24hr petrol station.
Therefore if I can be of any use for coffee, pee or minor mechanical assistance stops please get in touch, might even join you for a while.
Any idea of the timing for the run yet.

Grizzly
19-07-06, 19:19
Hi Phil,
Aberdeen will probably be one of the fuel stops, so any help you can offer would be appreciated - either for coffee or to ride along for a bit? :thumb
Moira, accompanied by myself and hopefully a few others, will leave Inverness on Thursday 7th Sept at 22:50 or thereabouts, so should be through Aberdeen about 01:00 am
I'll keep you up to date with plans, keep in touch.

Cheers...........................Grizzly

It looks like I should be able to join Moira and Grizzly on the region 10 leg now.
Appologies for backing out as co-ordinator but couldn't be sure I would be around.
I have been away.

I'm planning on joining you for the ride from Inverness to Aberdeen, I'm still offering pit stop services in Aberdeen :thumb , but I was wondering if any route had been finalised, or would you like some input on that part?

Grizzly
14-08-06, 20:02
Hi Phil,
Route is basically finalised and have attatched the Garmin route file - but it will only open if you have Garmin Mapsource software  - I'm quite happy to get any fine tuning advice,
I headed up to Inverness last wednesday evening with the wife on board with the idea of doing a recce run overnight as per the real thing  - unfortunately we got a piece of broken bottle right through the back tyre at Newtonmore which meant an overnight stop at a mates in Inverness then a new tyre fitted in the morning :( .
We then did the run during the day but really it was a waste of time because traffic etc is a lot different on this route in daytime, so looks like I'll have to do it again
Be really glad to have you join us at Inverness Phil - and use the coffee stop at yours :thumb we'll also be using my house near Dundee for a quick stop. We will have the use of rooms in Inverness to meet up in and rest before the start - these rooms will then be used by Region 9 for their overnight accomodation. Egon has also offered to help. Anybody else in the general area of Inverness to Berwick who fancies a sleepless night to accompany us at least part of the route please get in touch :clap

Cheers......................Grizzly

Take care, see you Thursday

OK, just to clarify the final  arrangements,
I had a 'phone call last night from Egon which pointed out a possible small error  in the travel inn to be used as the "assembly point" for Region 10 - and the overnight accomodation for Region 9.
G.C. has now clarified things ;) - and the BATON HANDOVER will still be at the 24hr Tesco petrol station at the Eastfield Retail Park on the A96 Nairn road - east of the A9. GPS co-ords N57 28.996, W4 10.666.
The gathering point, however, will now be the Inverness East Premier Travel Inn, which is close to Raigmore Hospital - this is about 2 miles from the handover point. Map:- www.premiertravelinn.com/pti/hotelInformation.do?hotelId=23813
Myself, Moira and Scotch are meeting in Dunkeld at 16:00 and then onto the Travel Inn, where we can have some grub - but no  - and relax. PhilM and Egon will also meet us at the travel Inn later in the evening :thumb and we can stay there until closer to the hand-over time :bounce1 - G.C. will be keeping us updated on Region 9 E.T.A.

Cheers ----See Ya All Soon.....................Grizzly
