Troubpe changing gear on an 1150

Hi,

My bike has been unridden for the last 5 weeks due to me being out of the country.
On my return she started first turn of the key. But has trouble going through the gears. On the way up I have to tap the lever down a little before engaging 3rd or above. On the way down I have to do the same thing but tap up.
I have tried wd40. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks and regs

Charlie

Check the lever isn't loose on the splines - if it is you'll have to take off the starter motor cover adjacent to gear lever - a real pain, to tighten up .My lever came adrift on my old bike.
Or it could be the little spongy bit on the linkage having dried out . Lube it with 3 in 1 or light gear oil - NOT WD 40 (as it dries out too quick).

Hi,

I had a similar probelm with gear selection on my '99 1150GS. I dismantled and checked the linkage to no avail. Asked SPC to look at it during its service and it turned out to be what they say is quite a common problem.

Dirt gets into the bush that is in the gear lever itself. Cure-New bush costing about £2.50. No problems since.
