I would like to know if its possible to install Mapsource on an Ipaq and download necessary maps to Garmin V on the road.

I am thinking of buying an Ipaq and would like to use it for this purpose on planned trips abroad.

Anybody tried this or if you have an Ipaq and GPS could someone experiment and let me know.

cheers

Garmin dont ship a version of mapsource thats PocketPC compatible (IPAQ) or didnt last time I looked. U can get OziExplorerCE which will work on an IPAQ but u also need OziExplorer on your PC and some digital maps to use with it (garmin ones dont work) and u can only use it for plotting routes and tracks not Map downloads (to garmin) or I believe u can user Fugiwai? on PPC which I think does ship with maps. but will still only upload routes tracks etc. But I'm only talking from what I've read, though I have played with oziexCE just didnt have any usefull digimaps for it to be any good.
A problem I found with Ipaqs is they dont work very well in cold temps. ie less than 5 degC so a bit limited on a bike.

Gerry,

Also been surfing the web in search for the same type except I have the Jornada ppc. So far found links from PSion to Garmin but not alternative models.

Well this was Garmin's reply after I asked them whether my PDA is compatible or not..

Hi Dirk,

Sorry, you cannot use your PDA for additional data storage.

We are developing a compact flash GPS, with appropriate software, but I have
no additional information on this at this time.
