It is interesting, and probably worth trying if you can find some in a shop.

I fitted iridium plugs to my 02 GS and they do make a difference, a slight change in engine note and smoother acceleration, can't say I ever had a problem with engine surging before or after. I got mine a set of NGK's here-

Don't really cure surging, just cover up ( ever so slightly) the underlying problem
