Well after my 600 service the bike was making a lot of noise (tappet I think) comming from the right pot.
So iphoned the dealer on Sat .
There were no Mecs in so they would phone back on Monday but it was ok to use it.
Anyway, Monday no one phoned, Tuesday morning no one phoned.
Eventually I phoned myself but could'nt get thru to a MEC person.
About 30 mins later one phoned me back...and asked me to bring in the bike. I'm 72 miles away and working and cud'nt take the time off. So arranged the BMW ( forgot the name) people come and pick the bike up after work about 5.15.
Anyway a guy turns up whose a Bmw specialist ...but I think he was mainly cars.
Anyway the oil was below the siteglass! Cant believe that it used that much oil in 200 miles!!!
Reckon they never topped up the oil properly after they set the valves cos u loose a bit., dont u?
And I suspect to save time they would have changed the oil first when the bike was warm...then wait for it to cool and then do the valves.
Anyway topped up the oil but of course the noise was still there.
Unfortunately these people wud not recover the bike because they said it was the garage fault.
So tomorrow have to phone Mill up to arrange them to pick up the bike and fix/check it and return it. Cos I cant get any more time off.
Bit pissed off..the BMW experience is not good so far!!!!
What worries me is that I reckon the oil was below the sight glass when I picked it up and I've driven 200+ miles with it that way. Hardly inspires confidence.

Who was the dealer?

I think you still have a long way to go to compare with me experience! Look at the website!

Evenflow.
The oil level is a black art. search the forum for threads about checking oil levels.

You will find that even when you have exactly the right amount in the sump that the sight glass will show half full (or half empty) if you have run the engine.

Too much oil will cause damage.

tHE DEALER IS MILL BMW IN BOLDON,

I'm still having trouble getting them to come and take the bike back. They say I should bring it in myself. But I cant get the time off work. Can only manage saturaday. They dont do bikes on saturday.

Hello Honda

update

Well the bikes been recovered..bin taken to Mill and I've got a courtersey car (poor substitute I know)
So we shall see what develops.

Excuse me, a little O.T. question: I saw a lot of times a BMW guy take care of threads in the ADV rider forum (I suppose USA), why I've never seen the same here?
Do you guys think that they're here but they don't want us to know or what?

Well Sir Evenflow...,

I had the same problem - serious clatter from RHS. Comment from dealer was "It's not the quietest I've heard"

I wrote a formal letter. They looked again and found that the oil-pressure tensioned camchain thingy was faulty. Both sides replaced and no problem since.

The oil level issue you will get used to - read the back posts.

Hope this helps.

M

Well still no bike.
Just heard that its on its way round about the A1..So that means about 10.30 and in the dark...difficult to inspect it for marks and scratches.
When I phoned up about the problem I was told, "dont worry, we'll jump thru hoops to get your bike sorted". That was last Saturday and a lot a hoops ago.
Allan Jefferies is a long way for me to go but I'm gonna give him a shot at the 6000 service.:
BTW does anyone know the BMW dealer in Glasgow..cos hes only about 1.5 hours or less away?

Bike just finally arrived and purring like a kitten.
Unfortunately has chipped engine bar and slight scratch on front mudguard:shoot:

I've had no personal experience but I have heard a few things from different sources which would not fill me with confidence.
Though I did read a post on here which said they were very helpful with (I think) a faulty master cylinder.
Maybe you'd like to try them and let us all know how you get on.

Oh, can you tell us what Mill have actually done to fix your bike? Was it the valve clearances?

Was a loose tappet....Now its very quiet indeed:p

And that was after a service?
You'd be as well checking/adjusting them yourself next time.
