Hi all,

Just a quickie :D Looking at the possibility of changing my Quest for the 2610 especially as its on offer at the moment.

I have read the spec but can't find certain things.

Does this unit have a built in battery so it can be used as a handheld :nenau
Not that thats how im going to use it, just curious.

If it has to be hard wired into the bike is it done from the mount or the unit.
ie... with the quest it powers up from an ipac which plugs into the bike.

I have seen a ram kit for the 2610 but do they do a powered mount.

decisions and questions eh

No internal battery, in the kit comes cigarette lighter power adaptor (non-Waterproof) and 240v mains adaptor.

A seperate power/audio cable with in-line fuse, wired direct to the battery.

All of the mounting options require power in addition, though Garmin sell a complete bike mounting kit of cradle and power/audio lead (which is more cost effective than buying both seperately.

Hope that helps :thumb

Thanks Judge, your a star :beerjug:

I assume then once you have power, the lead would be left loose up by the mount somewhere when you take the 2610 off. :nenau

Yes and at the very least you'd protect it from the elements by using the plastic cover to protect the copper contacts which will furr or worse corrode.

Some I know have put a switch in the cable so when they aren't using it no power goes to the endy-bit, I've never bothered just been careful about putting the cover on and keeping it out of the elements as best I can, in 2 years no problems.
