Anyone any advice or direct me to previous threads please.

Need a Sat Nav that will work in a Car, GS Bike and Mountain Bike.
Needs to be therefore shock proof, waterproof and readable while travelling.

I did hear last night that some PDA's could fit the bill.

I am sure you all know better than I do on the subject.

I've had a quick look, and there are no threads about 'which sat nav' at all. None whatsoever. Sorry.

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D ;)

ps. Get a Quest 1

Have used sat navs for work for quite a few years now.
Use a Garmin I3 I think it is now, had the Tom Tom One nicked a few weeks ago.
I think the dedicated sat nav is faster and easier to operate than PDA's.
The Tom Tom was quite ok to use for the short time we had use of it, and quite like the Garmin I3.
I haven't decided which to buy for my European trip next year on the bike either.
Can,t decide if to go for a cheap "throw away one" or bother with a 2610 or similar or spend even more on a Navman or Zumo.
So many decisions...so many gadgets...so little time :nenau

I have the Dell Axim and a bluetooth gps mouse and Mappopolis. Its a total pita to use even in the car. Wouldn't even think of using it on the bike. I also have the Garmin 276C which is the dog's b****x.

My advice is to stick with a dedicated unit.

As mentioned above - don't consider a PDA one.

The big problem is that the power connection in the bottom of the PDA is very fragile (it also transfers data) and is easily broken.

If you are looking for one to do car/GS/pushbike, then the only one I could recommend would be the Quest1/Quest2.

With the Quest, you may want to mount it off the bars rather than on top of the clocks (it has a fairly small screen)

Otherwise the Quest is a top piece of kit.

Another one for DONT use a PDA.

Seen a few guys I worked with trying to use them. Fiddly and fragile as mentioned. Certainly wouldn't want to bounce off my mountain bike at any speed.

A dedicated device is far easier to use, more robust and IMHO performs better :thumb

Grab a brand new Garmin 2610 now while they are available for around £180!!! Bargain!!!! :thumb

Can't go wrong with a £180 2610, except for use on a mountain bike.

Thanks Mates !

Thankyou all for the comments.
Must find a shop in Manchester where I can look at the real things working.

Need footpath and bridleway mapping for MB and WR250.
Need less detail on the GS & Car.
Need a screen that can be read easily also.

Not much to ask for in 1 unit :rob
