Bormio in July

Planning to stay in or near to Bormio in July this year.

Are there any recommendations for accomodation in Bormio itself and any views on the town as a base?...

We found a nice place couple of years back,called hotel Bormio believe it or not it's on the main road just outside the town,but cheap,clean and there is very good pizzeria just five mins walk up the road.Andy

I can certainly recommend the Bormino area as I have stayed in the area every year for a few days for the past 12 years. However I have only stayed in the town once for a couple of days. I tend to stay either at:

a) Chalet Villa Valania (http://www.alpsby.com/villavalania/pages/profile.htm) which has an 5 kilometer 'interesting' non-metalled switchback road up the side of mountain to get to it. The GS is made for this road. The chalet is great as a center for mountain biking and walking and is very small and quiet.

b) One of the hotels at the top of Stelvio pass. (http://www.hotels.valtline.it/hotel_stelvio.htm). I tend to stay here for only a couple of nights.

I stopped here a couple of years ago due to torrential rain and very wet camping gear, lovely place. http://miramontihotel.it/start.php?page=home&img=01&lang=EN
And yes the pizza place is really good, plus the waitresses are easy on the eye.
