Over the next couple of weeks i shall recommend a few pubs, taking different directions from Molland.
The information is mainly for those people that would like to explore the area, either on their own - or in small groups of friends, and don't want to risk taking pot luck on where they stop.
If any ride leaders find the information of use, please feel free to try my recommendations.
As it's Bank Holiday, i suggest it may be worthwhile booking a table(s), to ensure you get to eat.
In most instances, there will be at least a couple of recommendations in each direction.

Heading E-SE to the outskirts of Dorchester (Feel free to pop in to CW's), take this route (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=Molland,+North+Devon+District&daddr=51.01337,-3.40838+to:50.99366,-3.3383+to:50.9869,-3.35628+to:50.96036,-3.29731+to:50.9480528,-3.1924289+to:50.87669,-2.97085+to:50.87024,-2.77379+to:Plush,+The+Brace+of+Pheasants+(SW-bound,+Unmarked),+Piddletrenthide,+West+Dorset+Dis trict&hl=en&ll=50.813745,-2.614059&spn=0.223433,0.617294&sll=50.895238,-2.829666&sspn=0.223043,0.617294&geocode=FTPSCgMdsI3H_yklBv_Hys5tSDGYNcdMUiDNZg%3BF fpmCgMdBP7L_ymVvDIYXeptSDHRUFhQQfQQEw%3BFfwZCgMdxA _N_ynRfmzqYuttSDFgEGuyLa4OEw%3BFZT_CQMdiMnM_ykFVva xa-ttSDGA_2qyLa4OEw%3BFeiXCQMd4q_N_ymD1pGHM5NtSDF0zSu MjZ1RkA%3BFdRnCQMdlEnP_ymRuRf_F41tSDHR9BVK_WLJ_Q%3 BFRJRCAMdHqvS_yn5dMGMjnZySDG6iTJtHt9AwA%3BFeA3CAMd 4qzV_ykxTEwm8m5ySDHwU1dQQfQQEw%3BFXpsBwMd-EXb_ymh5utMJlBySDGIh_YHXkK7lQ&oq=molland,+United+Kingdom&mra=dpe&mrsp=7&sz=11&via=1,2,3,4,5,6,7&t=m&z=11) and stop at The Brace of Pheasants (http://www.thegoodpubguide.co.uk/pub/view/Brace-of-Pheasants-DT2-7RQ). Sandy and i stopped there a coupe of nights back and had a fantastic venison wrapped in pancetta and a red wine reduction with home done chips and nice veg, followed by a couple of superb puds.
If they're too busy you can head over to ex news reader Fiona Philips' pub, The Greyhound (http://www.thegoodpubguide.co.uk/pub/view/Greyhound-DT2-9PD). I'll leave it for you to work out which way you'd like to head back.

Heading South from Molland, to the Devon Coast. If you love your fish dishes ( my recommendation would be the seafood gumbo ), and you're an officiando of good sized portions, head for The Anchor Inn (http://www.thegoodpubguide.co.uk/pub/view/Anchor-EX6-8RA) at Cockwood, via this route (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=Molland,+North+Devon+District&daddr=51.00586,-3.95835+to:50.95519,-4.12224+to:50.82234,-3.93654+to:50.6741,-3.80067+to:50.58899,-3.65858+to:50.611379,-3.5971059+to:50.6356573,-3.5833089+to:The+Anchor+Inn,+Cockwood&hl=en&ll=50.535253,-3.262939&spn=0.449524,1.234589&sll=50.617014,-3.545151&sspn=0.056093,0.154324&geocode=FTPSCgMdsI3H_yklBv_Hys5tSDGYNcdMUiDNZg%3BF aRJCgMdspnD_yl3UZ3ClTZsSDFwIUmyLa4OEw%3BFbaDCQMdgB nB_ymr7i9RsThsSDGATTpQQfQQEw%3BFcR8BwMd5O7D_ymNIh5 G9E5sSDF9RVB7gX59tQ%3BFbQ5BQMdogHG_ylNDGEox1RsSDH-Yi4RtMjk8A%3BFT7tAwMdrCzI_ylbxnpgIwdtSDFxoFhQQfQQE w%3BFbNEBAMdzxzJ_yldkqAZ7wdtSDEkhurQYlc1KQ%3BFYmjB AMdtFLJ_ynnySnY4qdtSDHw2FGyLa4OEw%3BFVBaBAMdNF7L_y n_SF5eZQptSDFYF-AQGUKqww&oq=cockwood+anc&mra=dpe&mrsp=7&sz=13&via=1,2,3,4,5,6,7&t=m&z=10). Another choice, down the road a ways, is The Sea Trout (http://www.thegoodpubguide.co.uk/pub/view/Sea-Trout-TQ9-6PA) at Staverton.
Have a gander at a map and see where else you'd like to visit on your way back.

Another run to the coast, this time to the lovely town of Sidmouth and then along some picturesque back lanes to The Diggers Rest (http://www.thegoodpubguide.co.uk/pub/view/Diggers-Rest-EX5-1PQ) at Woodbury, via this route (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=Molland,+North+Devon+District&daddr=50.9948743,-3.4798403+to:51.03284,-3.1815+to:51.0248267,-3.0749571+to:50.960473,-3.0898919+to:50.68135,-3.23764+to:50.676985,-3.267777+to:50.6763,-3.39894+to:diggers+rest+woodbury&hl=en&sll=50.659038,-3.271179&sspn=0.112086,0.308647&geocode=FTPSCgMdsI3H_yklBv_Hys5tSDGYNcdMUiDNZg%3BF boeCgMd4ObK_ykbyTNIUcBtSDEUx9mOfx6HkQ%3BFQizCgMdRH TP_ymTC6s-yPNtSDGARmuyLa4OEw%3BFbqTCgMdcxTR_ymd7hQzpfVtSDHvv 8kIrpMiOQ%3BFVmYCQMdHdrQ_ynP3vjVJ4ttSDGAYWyyLa4OEw %3BFQZWBQMd-JjO_ylTnbNS-5xtSDEQIkGyLa4OEw%3BFflEBQMdPyPO_ylTyzriTJxtSDEZBB C6XrQwxA%3BFUxCBQMd5CLM_ykBgCct1KFtSDEBh0CyLa4OEw% 3BFdWEBQMd3RzM_yFUpBbJlCb1AQ&mra=dpe&mrsp=7&sz=12&via=1,2,3,4,5,6,7&t=m&z=12). Another pub that's worth visiting, but you'll need a nice sunny day, is The Turf (http://www.thegoodpubguide.co.uk/pub/view/Turf-Hotel-EX6-8EE), which is my local. It's a little awkward to get to, involving parking up and taking a stroll, but it's a super location. Make sure you get there early if it's going to be sunny as it gets very busy. There's loads of outside seating though.
Once again, work out a route back to suit yourselves.

Heading E-NE for this one, there's the option of a shorter run or a slightly longer one via this route (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=Molland,+North+Devon+District&daddr=50.99071,-3.49618+to:51.0273803,-3.1615556+to:51.07866,-2.862865+to:Halfway+House+near+Pitney+to:51.10028,-2.73587+to:Wookey+Hole,+Wells&hl=en&sll=51.139294,-2.644272&sspn=0.221872,0.617294&geocode=FTPSCgMdsI3H_yklBv_Hys5tSDGYNcdMUiDNZg%3BF XYOCgMdDKfK_ykPcx1f6MBtSDF8ZVTbpKuBMg%3BFbSdCgMdLc LP_yn7rzS8lfNtSDGBYgV1ZX5YSQ%3BFQRmCwMd71DU_ykFRrC 9Fw5ySDHOVXcbkOLeig%3BFRbqCgMdXovV_yFjvjNWrNL7PQ%3 BFXi6CwMdAkHW_ynZHkaL3RZySDGKhNQjrAvxMg%3BFSqgDQMd kDDX_ymb3hzgqRhySDFueYPtnrFPnw&oq=wookey&mra=dpe&mrsp=5&sz=11&via=1,2,3,5&t=m&z=11), taking in The Halfway House (http://www.thegoodpubguide.co.uk/pub/view/Halfway-House-TA10-9AB) at Pitney or, travel a bit further to The Wookey Hole Inn (http://www.thegoodpubguide.co.uk/pub/view/Wookey-Hole-Inn-BA5-1BP). Both pubs give you the opportunity of some shopping at Clarks' Village, a wander round Wells and a pootle up Cheddar Gorge.
Head back to Bridgwater and follow my recommended route to the campsite from the main event information section.

The Exmoor/Quantock Explorer. This one gives you a superb round trip on some lovely roads, that take in some of the best bits of the Exmoor and Quantock Hills. North West Devon this time, taking in some stunning coastal views and some nice twisty moorland lanes, on this route (http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?saddr=Molland,+UK&daddr=51.0245309,-3.8111741+to:Dunster+to:51.2250771,-3.8033015+to:Georgeham,+North+Devon+District+to:51 .07207,-4.11931+to:Bideford,+UK+to:50.98208,-4.2248+to:50.91298,-4.36328+to:Holsworthy,+UK+to:51.008,-3.94613+to:Molland,+UK&hl=en&sll=51.020615,-3.91769&sspn=0.444882,1.234589&geocode=FTPSCgMdsI3H_yklBv_Hys5tSDGYNcdMUiDNZg%3BF ZKSCgMdmtjF_ylJCtnBaMttSDGmsFUQt4U68A%3BFbv6DAMdY2 _L_yl7xKbTbudtSDEpZXU1uCaf4A%3BFfWhDQMdW_fF_ymreU2 hX9RtSDEWoiU-lfYt6w%3BFfhGDAMdrPS__ynPP9_-BiNsSDGXbOgaZfmojg%3BFUZMCwMd8iTB_ymH8_4TcztsSDFgS 0iyLa4OEw%3BFexzCgMdts-__ylHAsDaq_hrSDHPcYzHYlA91A%3BFcDsCQMd4Ii__ymnBXw0 MD5sSDHKn-XPmZnVRA%3BFdTeCAMd8Gu9_ynte0pn3GxsSDHKqR85Rp6hdQ% 3BFX9JBwMdN5C9_ykjKofsTA1sSDE7Vj9kbhH_-g%3BFQBSCgMdbsnD_yl3UZ3ClTZsSDFxIUmyLa4OEw%3BFTPSC gMdsI3H_yklBv_Hys5tSDGYNcdMUiDNZg&oq=molland&mra=dpe&mrsp=10&sz=10&via=1,3,5,7,8,10&t=m&z=10). If you fancy a night away another time, this place is one to head for, especially for their fish.

MM has posted up some nice local routes but I am not sure if anyone has organised a road ride out?
Unfortunately, I can't attend the event other than during the day on Saturday but I am happy to ride over and lead a group around the local roads if there is any interest.

Okay, we have the off road group sorted with Jim, Sid and, possibly, Barry G. I have received offers of road ride leaders from Andy and Andy - aka Humbug and Devon, with offers of assistance over the weekend from John G - aka White One and a half day lead out to Plymouth by Dave - aka Dave & Val.
I've not spoken directly to most of the volunteers, but if you need to chat, drop me a pm.
Road ride leader volunteer's would be handy for both days, and any assistance is much appreciated.
For those that don't know me very well, i'll most likely be the tallest person with a tipi on site, so look me up when you arrive and introduce yourself.

Dartmoor's there for everyone to have a gander over, and most people do when they're in the area. I've just posted some alternative routes, not normally taken by people visiting the area, to offer an alternative to the usual.
As stated, they're just suggestions to help people see the area and avoid taking a gamble on a lunch stop. Feel free to get your maps out and explore other areas and routes if it suits.:thumb2

I've got a nice little route that wanders over Exmoor using quite a few little known back roads, many of them single track with maybe a (small) ford thrown in. Tea/coffee and lunch stops can be factored in easily to suit all tastes.

If anyone wishes to accompany us they will be very welcome.

I think your small ford might currently be a raging torrent at the mo, but a local that knows the roads is an absolute boon. As Freddie and Sue found out a couple of years back, i know a few lesser well known runs on the moor too!:bounce1

I think your small ford might currently be a raging torrent at the mo, but a local that knows the roads is an absolute boon. As Freddie and Sue found out a couple of years back, i know a few lesser well known runs on the moor too!:bounce1

I'll check it out this week. It's only a small one though. :thumb2

The last time we had torrential rain it wasn't too bad and was still perfectly crossable - even two up on a cruiser!

As mentioned in The Walkies section, it's Paignton Bike Festival from Friday to Sunday this weekend. For those that may want to head there for a day out, a good lunch stop can be found at The Sea Trout Inn (http://www.thegoodpubguide.co.uk/pub/view/Sea-Trout-TQ9-6PA) at Staverton, around 4 miles out from Paignton.

Went out for the day and recce'd the route I've got in mind. The ford was a bit swollen :blast so I found a nice little detour that avoided it. Overall the roads are fine with just a couple or so corners with loose gravel over them caused by the rains.

We ended up back at the campsite and got talking to Zena. She kindly showed us around the site. The camping area is fine, firm but slightly on the soft side. She indicated an area of hardstanding that she will be opening for the weekend, purely for parking the bikes as she's worried they may sink in the grassy areas. The site really is in a lovely situation and is very quiet. All you can hear are the birds singing and the distinct gurgle of the river. I expect it may be a bit noisier at the weekend! :D :thumb2 Madmountainman - you should be congratulated on a brilliant choice. :bow

Looking forward to it.

Distant gurgles? Reminiscent of East Mids a couple of years ago when tent barfing was all the rage.

If it's of any use to someone, I've plotted the route I intend to take on Saturday and attached it as a Mapsource file below. It's 130 miles long and takes in quite a few of Exmoor's stunning roads and scenery. It's not a fast route and there's a fair few narrow, twisty and even single track roads to negotiate. A tea/coffee stop by the river can be factored in the morning (we'll carry flasks of hot water and all the necessaries), a lunch stop at Lynmouth where there are plenty of eateries, whether it be pub lunch, fish and chips or locally made pasties you prefer. I have allowed for an ice cream stop on Minehead seafront - the locally made Styles ice cream is delicious. Then it's a roundabout route back to the site, crossing over Exmoor near Dunkery Beacon, it's highest point.

Leaving at 10.30 am we should be back for approx 5.00 pm.

Here are few pictures we took yesterday.
