Byways on OS Explorer Map 144 - Basingstoke, Alton & Whitchurch

BTW (excuse ignorance) what is a TRO?
Traffic Regulation Order - prevents powered vehicle use - usually temporary while damage is repaired or during winter months. In the case of the lanes leading to Rushmoor Pond only applies to 4 wheeled vehicles and appears permanent.

Went....

and had a look at some of these bye ways, looked like it could be fun, but being a complete novice off road did not try any on my own.....some of the lanes up to them were fun as well......:D Looked at the ones north of Alton along the line of Odiham road.....:D

Moral Support required....

I am going to try some of the very easy lanes, as per Clive, will be here SU676384 at about 1100 hours on Sunday 22 April 2007, if anybody would like to join me it would be much appriciated....bear in mind I am a complete novice so dont expect Dakar style routes.....:D

Easy Off Road

Mick,
Not quite an off-road virgin, if my mrmory serves me correct...
How about a follow up free lesson.
I was to blame for the fun and games the last time.
Pat.

Billy No Mates..

went and did it on his own, did Tinkers Lane, dropped the bike twice, no damage, injured me elbow badly, hurts like **** and very painful to bend.....so as of now if it's not covered in tarmac not interested.....

I know the track does not look that bad but there were some really large gravel, which is where gravity took over......:D

Have a good hard look at those crash bars, I had them and wasn't long before the rear support cracked after a few very low speed off's, didn't protect the heads either so took em off :thumb

Hope you heal soon

Cheers....

Green Lane - Stone track to start with leading past a farmhouse then gets more interesting - fairly overgrown with a number of large concrete lumps - presumably to deter 4x4 from using the byway?

Green Lane - More overgrown that it appears :)

Watch out for a number of concrete lumps scattered along the edges of this end of the track.

A bit of a forgotten byway, tricky to get onto this end since it is on a dual-carriageway. The other end leads onto a short UCR currently 4x4 restricted by a locked gate but with an additional gate with a large enough gap for a GS to get through. Probably not for the first-timer due to the large rabbit population digging holes and one section of the track has a large fallen tree across it - again with enough gap for a GS to get around slowly.

A bit of a forgotten byway, best to get onto this end since the other end joins a dual-carriageway. Via a short UCR currently 4x4 restricted by a locked gate but with an additional gate with a large enough gap for a GS to get through. Probably not for the first-timer due to the large rabbit population digging holes and one section of the track has a large fallen tree across it - again with enough gap for a GS to get around slowly.

Watch out for golfers/buggies - runs near Bowenhurst Golf course - not very interesting.
