Just acquired this rather scratty looking drz400 (from Possu) to start my trail riding career in earnest. Although it looks a bit tatty, it rides well and seems to have the right bits sorted out, with a nice Acerbis tank, stainless spacers, sump guard, etc, plus a box of bits with a kickstart conversion, and a new Ti zorst of some sort. I know that this is the "banana forks" model but at the moment it's a lot more capable than I am. Had a few miles yesterday round the lanes here and I really like the power delivery, lots of low down, and also quite soft so as not to get me into trouble. Plus I dropped it into a "water feature" that was rather deeper than anticipated, at the bottom of which was 62 of mud with the consistency of treacle and the smell of pig slurry. :blast . So I was very grateful when it started 1st time!

Next investment I think will be a tow bar and trailer, as I'm not over keen on going too far on the road on it, really. And I am not, under any circumstances, blinging it up with a load of aftermarket extra's.:nono If I get good enough to tell the difference I'll get another bike.:D

And to those who say it's heavy - after hauling my gs12 up I picked this up and it felt like I was going to throw it over the hedge:eek:

Looking forward to getting out on some lanes::clap

ps - does anyone know where I can get new mirror...::eek:

Well done for getting what can be the best all-road bike available imho.

I've spend about 1.5k on mind (engine still untouched!) and it is the best bike (not for speed) that I've owned.

Sell & swap me your Ti Zorst please, I've a standard exhaust in excellent condition. :thumb2

thanks!

Dunno what make it is, I'll post some pics. I'd be interested in doing a deal with a standnd zorst as I don't want anything to noisy, the one on it's a bit hacked about and tatty.

Right..

Congrats.. I have a tatty one too.. BUT Get a stainless spacer for behind the the front sprocket and put a fresh seal in, if it has still got the original mild steel one fitted.. ASAP! If not, they can rust, and the tear the seal out, which dumps your engine oil.

My oil seal went after my second trip out with mine, luckily i spotted the drips of oil on the garage floor, so got it chainged before any serious damage done. Was a 20min fix with the help of Hew.. get onto ebay and buy a stainless spacer kit for the wheels too if it aint got one.

Watch the cam chain tension, the original aint adjustable, as soon as it starts to get any noise, get a manual adjuster fitted and your set for life!..

I just blasted mine around a load of lanes under the expert guidance of Timpo.. they are great bikes for green laining and occaisonal road use.

Had mine since april, not done too many miles, but i still get a smile from riding it. Now hunting for a better sump guard, bar risers and better pegs (mine are bit bent)

Ride and enjoy!

Possu had already done all the ss spacers, also got an Acerbis tank and bigger sump guard.

Could do with bar risers and non-bent footpegs, though

Well looked after..

Sorry overlooked that it was Possu's.. he looks after his bikes well. So you should be fine..

Yep, my left hand foot peg is bent forward.. done by previous owner lord knows how.
Either way, i too am on the hunt for better pegs and bar risers.

Get some Fastways pegs or PivotPegz if you're feeling rich.

The bike's already got stainless wheel spacers @ each end plus the countershaft spacer along with a new seal. All the originals are in a bag in that box of bits.

Exhaust can is Ti Scorpion with a stainless (I think?) link pipe. I've quietend it down a little by fitting a removeable baffle from an old Remus.
